How is the Cove doing

May 17 2003, 7:28 AM

Its been 2 years since I went to the cove. I stopped going because very few people (if any) were there when I went. Is it about the same or are there more people visiting it now? I would love to go back if more people are there. I just hate being the only one around (not safe being alone). Please e-mail me if it has changed, I would love to hear if it has improved. I kind of miss the mud between my toes

Cove Trail

Thanks for the work on the trail - everybody who uses the Cove will appreciate it. I haven't been out lately but know it's the time of year when it needs to be done and doing it about now is usually enough.

In years past when I've whacked the trail I've kept it sort of on the modest side. The farmer who leases the ground for the hay might object if we make too much of a freeway out of it but all in all should be happy to have one trail instead of multiple paths to the Cove.

Hope everybody works to the trash picked up - again the guy paying the Corps for the use of the land won't want cans and bottles in his equipment when he takes the hay off in another 6 or 8 weeks.

Good work - thanks.

Hi Ed

You were one of the early birds to visit the Cove - probably 5 or 6 years ago when we homesteaded it - Ed and I took some of the early pictures and they're probably still on the webpages.

US 169 north through Smithville - north of town several miles watch for County road W and take that to the east of 169. Immediately after getting on W turn left onto County Route F and follow that north for 1/2 mile till you see a green street sign for SW King Road. King is gravel - take it to the right and stay with it for one mile - that'll get you to a double curve -park at the sharp left curve and walk on ahead to the wire cable gate - you'll see a "tomato stake" with H over C on it - Heartland Cove.Walk down the tractor lane till it opens up into the hay field then turn left and look for the path leading to the Cove itself.

http://www.sky.net/~rjw/cove.htm - the Cove's own page. I see the map isn't displaying properly and need to attend to that giltch. Otherwise the info on the page is current. Quite a few users although most days any one person who shows up might or might not find any other users on the scene.

Good hearing from you - come join us for a swim again some Friday.

Dick
