Just days after dealing for superstar netminder Patrick Roy it seems GM Bolt is back to his old tricks again in a pair of deals today.
1st deal- G Arturs Irbe to the Rivermen for LW Kristian Huselius and C Shawn Horcoff.
Everyone could see Irbe being dealt but with glaring needs being a defensive center and a rugged d-man it was expected that irbe would go for at least one of these assets. Instead the Thunder get two prospects, both with an offensive flair. Huselius needs to put on some weight but has great offensive skills and could eventually play on a scoring line for the Thunder. Horcoff is a C who is a bit more of a polished player than Huselius, but can still put the puck in the net.
2nd deal- C Shawn Horcoff, RW Tie Domi and $400,000 for NY Ravens 1st round pick
This is where the rebuilding really shows up. Horcoff didn't even get a chance to book a plane to Toronto before he was on his way to NY. RW Domi lost his spot on RW to Tom Fitzgerald once GM Bolt took back over the coaching reigns after head coach Johnny Capone had to quit due to personal reasons. The 1st round pick at the moment is a lottery pick, but the Ravens have been underachieving and should settle around the 10-15 mark by the time the smoke clears.
Overall the Thunder add some valuable commodities, but none that will help in a run to the playoffs this season. This reporter is wondering if the playoffs are still the goal? If the playoffs look out of reach look for C Jeremy Roenick and G Patrick Roy to possibly be moved as the deadline approaches.
Roberto Luongo will be recalled from the Stingers to be the back-up to Patrick Roy for the next game.
