During the 1970/71 time period, there were actually three (maybe more?) Ford blues in use for engines. All the '71 429 CJs that I have had experience with had the light blue, however, all the '70 429 CJs that I've seen used a medium blue. The all the early 460s that I've seen have used the dark blue. The medium blue is very hard to find in a spray can. Most Ford enthusiasts have never even heard of it. I did find it in a spray can back in the early eighties, but I didn't save the can and cannot remember the manufacturer. Any way, bottom line is that the parts that you have may be the less common medium blue, instead of a problem with paint mixes.
