Metuchen Built 71 Mustangs

by John B

This is an obscure question, but I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone had an answer. But first, I must digress. This last summer, at the MCA show in Dearborn, MI, I saw a 1971 Mach 1 (351 4V) with an unusual VIN - 1T as the first two digits instead of the usual 1F (F being Dearborn Assy Plant). Checking my plant code sheet, I found T indicated it was a Metuchen, NJ built car. I was surprised, since I was unaware that ANY 71 Mustangs were ever built in Metuchen. Now here is my question - Is anyone aware of any 429 Mustangs that were built at Metuchen? Also, in general, does anyone know the story behind how some 71 Mustangs built there?
