Vapor Return Line-SCJ Only??

by Ken M.

Joe,

I too am a little confused with some of the previuos messages on this board in regards to the fuel pumps/sending units and attaching lines on either the scj or cj cars. All the information I have shows both engine combinations with only a 3/8" supply fuel line and a 3/16" fuel return line (this line has a calibrated bleed through which provides a constant flow of fuel from the pump back to the fuel tank to help improve hot fuel handling characteristics)to the tank. The fuel tank sending unit on my cj car is as you have noted in your message, incorporating two outlets. Of course, there is the vapor line at the top of the tank to the charcoal cannister as well. In fact, I just replaced both of the fuel pump to tank lines, buying new lines from a firm called Classic tube in Lancaster New York (#716-759-1800). They bent both lines for me "almost" to exact specifications. The 3/8" line was exact, but the 3/16" line was close, except that for shipping purposes, they do not complete the final few bends. These were easy to accomplish, once I got the lines home. The OE steel version lines will run you $65US each, with the stainless versions costing $95US each. I was happy with my purchase, even though I had to add 50% for the cdn. $ conversion to US dollars. Remember, I have a cj car, so I cannot speak from experience in reference to scj cars. I personally do not know why they would require any additional lines to what I've noted above, but Ford may have provided an additional line on scj cars, which I'm sure somebody here will fill you in on. Regards.
