Drag Pack C6 Speedo Cable

by

When I added a 4.57 rear, and C6 to my Boss351, I needed the 429 C6 Drag pack cable to go with the C8ZZ Speedo Adapter, so I made one, here's how. The stock "regular" `71-73 Automatic cable is 61 1/2" long. The Drag Pack cable is 57 13/16" long. Purchase a cheap universal cable for a Chevy (Sorry). The Chevy uses the same "Screw-On" end needed for the Drag Pack Cable. Cut the end off of the chevy cable, and open up the crimps, (I used needdle-nosed pliers, inserted in the end, to open mine). Next, cut a new `71-`73 "regular automatic" cable in the correct location so that when the Chevy end is added to it, the cable will be at the Drag Packs length. (Locatate, and add a nice `71-`73 Firewall Grommet, if using a used cable.) Crimp the Chevy end onto the cable in the same method used when it was made, (you can tell by looking at it). Next, buy a cheap universal Cable Core, and cut it to the proper lenght, so that it sticks out enough to engage in the Speedo Adapter. The Core Cable will come with a tool to square off it's end. Install the core with Cable Grease. By using a stock `71-`73 Mustang cable, you retain the small metal collar which fits under the Firewall Clip. This is just for the C6, as the 4-Speed Drag Pack Cable was 71 13/16" long, and there isn't a long enough cable to use as a donor? A 67-68 Mustang Standard Trans cable was 77", and may work on a 4-Speed, or maybe a cable from a Lincoln, or T-Bird? This method may only be 99% "Correct", but it works.
