I am not any clearer now on what distributor is correct for my car than I was when we started. It seems that the DOOF-AA is correct for a 4 speed SCJ, and that it should have a dual vacuum diaphragm with dual points. This is supported by the 71 Ford Manual, the Master Parts Catalog, and the 1969-1973 Mustang Parts Identifier. The 1960-1973 Ford & Mercury Muscle Parts Identifier does not include this number for '71 429 Mustangs 4 speeds, but this source includes a code (D1OF-MA) that is not in any other source. Therefore this latter code is suspect. All 4 sources are in agreement that the automatic '71 429 Mustang distributor should be D1AF-NA; that's the easy one. The information that causes a problem is the Master Parts Catalog and the Mustang Parts Identifier which also list DOOF-J,K and -Y for 4 speeds 429 Mustangs. Does anyone out there have a 4 speed 429 Mustang with any of these codes on their distributor? This information would be a big help.
