Has any one had experience running a "hotter" cam setup on their 429cj engine, while still incorporating the factory Rochester carb. setup?
I currently have a camshaft that allows for a modest??? lift of .560" and 296/300 degrees duration, versus the factory spec. cam of approx. .500" lift . As you might expect, I am experiencing some problems relating to the overall operation of my engine.
This added lift has created some problems with low idle capabilities and low vacum operation at idle. Mind you, when my engine reaches 3000 rpm, the car is ready to fly...
I have reached a point where I must decide whether to change the Rochester carb setup to a carb that can handle the added camshaft lift and duration, or change the camshaft to one which will allow the factory carb to better operate. Can the Rochester carbureator be recalibrated to operate adequately with the hotter camshaft, and if so, has anyone got any experience in this area they can pass along to me?
If possible, I would like to take my car to a good speed shop and have them make the necessary alterations to my engine, in order that I can drive it on the street below 3000 rpm... FYI, I currently pull about 6-8" of vacum at idle, which just isn't acceptable to my engine. Any comments appreciated! :-)
