My Boss

by Rich Pajzer

I run a "measured" 11.5:1 ratio in my Boss 351, using 14 degrees at idle, with 38 degree total. I have no cranking problems at all. I'm only running 282 degrees of cam duration which should make matters worse,(stock cam was 292 duration). A higher duration cam will allow more initial timing, as the increased duration helps to bleed off clyinder pressure. Using less duration with a high compression engine will increase the cylinder pressure, and create problems, but I haven't had any.
