I want to start building model kits. Need your help!

I have always been interested in military aviation and I have been following this website for a while now amazed at the beautiful things everybody here creates. I want to try this myself. I am a total noob when it comes to this kind of stuff and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I was wondering what basic tools I would need to begin modelling (and basic cost to get them) and maybe recommend a good kit to start off with and see how I do. I would really appreciate any help you guys could give me.
