Back in territories 70s 80s the NWA world champion most of the time lost to the top area guy.
The top local guy always could claim he is the #1 contender,thus it could be a build up for the next time.
Now we have ppv and things are much different and also put yourself in the Nwa champs mind ,to get booked again.
So it is a win situation for all.
