Earning respect is something that can be attained in wrestling, but few people manage to do it nowadays. In order to earn respect, you must be brought up in the business the correct way. Train 5 days a week for hours upon hours and treat it like your job. When you aren't training in the ring, be working out at the gym to improve physique and appearance. When your are at a show, shake hands with EVERYBODY there and introduce yourself. Once you have done that, see what work needs to be done and set up the ring, chairs, entranceway, put up flyers, work security or anything that needs to be done.

Treat it like a job, be respectful to workers and those who came before you and help out in anyway possible and you will be set. A trainee should not have their first match in front of a live audience until they are TRULY ring ready, have shown all signs of professionalism and show that they truly understand everything about the business.

Almost every promotion does it the WRONG way. Show up before a show. Don't shake hands or introduce yourself to anybody. Learn how to run the ropes, bump and tie up. Throw on a cut-off t-shirt and gym shorts and go have a match that night. Everybody will tell you it was great. You get a big head. You talk down to workers and those who came before you. You don't help out setting up or tearing down. You think you're the shit.

That is what happens in most places now and it is why the wrestling business is on a rapid decline.

People like Lamont Williams are bringing back REAL wrestling training. I've heard great things about his school and trainees. See what he does in order to get a grasp of what "earning respect" means.
