MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS TONIGHT"

CONTROVERSIAL Droylsden owner Dave Pace last night delivered his biggest-ever bombshell when he revealed he intends to quit as both chairman and manager of the Bloods — and give the club away.
Pace, in charge at the Butcher’s Arms for nearly a decade, says he has grown so disillusioned by Droylsden’s dismal attendances that he’s prepared to part with the UniBond premier division outfit for nothing, providing any potential successor can prove they’re capable of running the club.
He denies his shock announcement, which places a massive question-mark over Droylsden’s future, is linked to his business partner Stephen Vaughan’s recent defection to Chester City and instead lays the blame squarely on stay-away fans.

Just 130 paying spectators saw the Bloods miss a chance to go third when crashing to a shock weekend defeat against struggling Whitby.

And, according to Pace, whose side surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2, over a third of those were visiting supporters.

The outspoken Denton businessman, who estimates he has spent well over £1m of his own money on Droylsden, said: ‘‘The fans lost us the game on Saturday — there wasn’t an ounce of atmosphere to lift the lads and we didn’t even get a clap when we scored our second goal.

‘‘That’s it as far as I’m concerned — I’ve had enough. But I’m not planning to leave simply so I can follow Stephen to Chester, I’m doing it because I’m sick to death of having no support here.

‘‘I’ll oversee things until a new manager and chairman come in and I don’t want a penny for the club. All I want is proof that someone can run it and they can have it.

‘‘The only thing which would persuade me to stay would be for us to get a crowd of something like a 1,000 for our next home game — and that’s not going to happen.’’

i'm no fan of mr pace, he strikes me as a mouth on legs, the sports ed at the reporter must be crapping himself given how much spout pace gives weekly. fair play to the bloke tho, he's always appeared 100% blood until this week, it might be the cynic in me but to quit when the team is really on the up.... after scraping at draw at harrison park to relegate leek rather than droylsden in the last week of last season, it seems a strange time to go...vaughan appears to wreak havoc wherever he pitches up, has davey boy followed the gravy train?
admittedly a crowd of 130 is abysmal for a half decent unibond prem team, but even so, if you've chucked a million at a club would you walk away now or would it have been in the depths of last season?
