On Sunday 2nd December 2001 Annfield Plain AFC will be holding a charity football match to raise club funds after vandalism during the summer nearly resulted in the club folding.
Now former Sunderland player Micky Horswill has got together with the Club and the Stanley Branch of the Sunderland AFC Supporters Association to arrange a fixture which will see the likes of Jim Platt, John Kay, John Mcphail, Gary Bennett, Paul Atkinson, Peter Reid, Steve McLaren, Terry Cochrane, Steve Gibson, David McCreery, Frank MacAveny, Bernie Slaven, Joe Allon, Alan Shoulder, Adrian Heath and Micky Horswill have agreed to play in this historic match.
4000 tickets went on sale on thursday and already 1000 have been sold. A full house is expected at Derwent Park Stadium, Annfield Plain with tickets priced £2 for adults and £1 for concessions.
There will be pre and post match entertainment and the match will be covered by Tyne Tees Television. Scottish & Newcastle Breweries and Just Sport have kindly sponsored the game.
Former Newcastle United and England manager Kevin Keegan has kindly donated merchandise to be raffled on the day as well as a number of prizes from Newcastle United, Sunderland AFC and Middlesbrough which include vip tickets and autographed merchandise.
