What's the best goal and game you've ever been to at non-league level.
Personally, the best game I've seen was a couple of years ago when we were at home to Leigh RMI. A win then and a win the following Saturday would see us go top with a few games remaining. We went 2-0 down just after half time but then we dominated the game with Yeo pulling a late goal back. A few minutes later he popped up with another one but just as everyone had calmed down from bouncing about and leaping on everyone's back they noticed the flag was up on the far side - d'oh! We lost 2-1 but we should've won.
There's a couple of goals which really stand out.
Unifilla Cup QF at home to Leek - a corner was played into the box only for a Leek player to head it away. Jody Banim was waiting about 25 yards out and hit it first time straight into the top corner.
Bishop Auckland away this year - quick free kick played to Chris Young about 25 yards out at an angle to the goal. Took one touch then curled it into the top corner when everyone was expecting a cross.
Brigg Town - FA Cup last year - free kick 40 yards out tapped to Simon Yeo who chipped the 'keeper and it went in off the crossbar. Nice.
Gareth Morris' 4 sec goal against Skelmersdale in the FACup this season. Tapped back from the kick-off and with the wind behind it, hit a 60 yrd screamer! that gave the Skelmersdale keeper no chance.
I see Mr Banim gets a mention. I could pick one of six or seven of Jodies from this season alone. I will however pick a Banim special.
Do you remember the old Frank Worthington televised goal. (Back to goal one, two bang)
Picture the scene, now Jodies made it hard for himslef, none of this directly in front of goal in the D, but how about on the corner of the 18 yard box, back to goal thigh, thigh, turn and curled into the top right hand corner of the net.
Perfection in motion
Best goal I've seen for Blyth was away at Blackpool in the FA Cup 1st round 5/11/97. He picked up the ball on the halfway line, beat three challenges and smashed it in from 35-40 yards. It even made MOTD's 'Goal of the Month' competition! On a purely non-league level, Carl Pepper's scored a couple of belters and Keith Fletcher (although a very frustrating player) scored some real beauties during his time at Croft Park.
