Blyth will be kicking themselves after letting a 2-goal lead slip against high-fliers Worksop. After just 2 minutes Richard Forster headed home a corner to give the home side the lead. The following 20 minutes saw Worksop exert almost incessant pressure and were unlucky not to get a penalty when the ball struck Carl Pepper's arm. Worksop's number 10 then elbowed Andy Martin but Mr Hewitt (surprise, surprise) didn't see it. As a result there was plenty of needle in the last 15 minutes but thankfully the players kept their cool.
The second half started as well as the first with Blyth pressing early on and taking a 2 goal lead when Glen Robson flicked on a corner for Andy Martin to head into the gaping goal. The game turned when after a period of pressure Worksop equalised with a scrambled effort. Blyth were rocked and despite having a few decent chances, never regained the confident mood which had previously personified their play. There was a sense of inevitability about the equaliser but when it came it was met with anger from the home fans. Blyth's defence opened up as the ball came into the box and was prodded home. Glen Robson then had a fantastic chance in injury time as he steered the ball over the keeper but agonisingly wide of the goal.
MOM: Gareth Williams / Lee Scroggins- they both worked their socks of for the team. |
