NO WAY ASHTON IS POOR,,
YES THE TERRACE IS POOR BEHIND ONE GOAL AND 2THIRDS DOWN ONE SIDE. (BUT THE HAVE TERRACE). YOU FAILED TO MENTION THE 2 NEW STANDS AT SPENNYMOOR THAT ARE AS GOOD AS ANYTHING IN THE UNIBOND PREMIER,
1. Main Grandstand & Dressing Room complex
Built in the early 1990's at a cost of 250.000 and officially opened when Manchester United came to the Brewery Field at the start of the 1992-93 season . Built on the site of the corrugated steel stand, this 300 seat grandstand is complete with (dressing rooms and corporate facilities). It was built following the recommendations of the Taylor Report, when the old wooden grandstand, originally bought from Catterick racecourse, some 54 years earlier, and on the opposite side of the field was demolished.
2. Joyce Hindmarsh Stand
The "Joyce Hindmarch Stand" can accomodate approximately 2,000 standing supporters, and is situated on the North Terrace behind the goal. It was officially opened on the 26th July 1996 by Peter Reid, who brought with him the Sunderland team and First Division Championship Trophy. The "Moors" lost this friendly fixture 3-1. The stand is dedicated to the late wife of, the present chairman Barrie Hindmarch, in recognition of her many years service to the club.
OK Ashton a 7 then. Maybe I was being a bit too generous.
Yes two sides of the Spennymoor ground are not bad but they are badly let down by the other two sides especially the end with the crumbling terracing. Lack of turnstiles and exits also restricts my mark to a 6.
Unfortunately I've only been to Ashton and Ossett out of the above grounds but I'd give Ashton more than a 6; it's better that some of the Premier Division grounds I've been to (Droylsden, Whitby, Frickley...).
I'd give Ashton an 8 and Ossett a 7; at Ossett they could do with terracing on the side of the ground where there's that dull looking 5-a-side pitch, and some protection to stop idiots leaping over the pitchside fence when Hyde score 90th minute equalisers in the Trophy.
sorry tom, whitby is better than droylsden and spennymoor and bishops. burton and lancaster r good grounds, i havent been to dump yet (frickley).
but whitby has to b classed as 7 and spennymoor 6
What about the turnstiles that are only used for big matches. Our average crowd of 170ish means that they are not generally used, but are there when needed. e.g When we played St Albans, Hyde, Macclesfield in the FA Trophy and on Sundays when Oldham Rugby bring 1000+ to each game.
As for Exits, there are 4 exits and another via the clubhouse. How many do you need for 200 fans?
7 would be a fair reflection. We also have the ability to segregate as we did against Hyde a few years ago in the Trophy, but it was quite fun watching 1000 fans swapping ends at half-time.
no chance GH.
our ground is the pants.
we've got one more season of wanky stand before the new one is built!
hurray, it was pants when i was a lad, and that was yonkers ago!
favourite ground is gainsborough.
dead smart i reckon.
