If we lose at Hucknall Town and both Colwyn Bay and Bishop Auckland win (away to Blyth Spartans and at home to Bradford Park Avenue respectively) then I make it that Hyde are relegated.

We did our bit............

April 20 2002, 6:39 PM

We beat Colwyn Bay 2-0 easily. Bay are a bunch of thugs, I've never seen such violence and dissent. We battered them for the first 45 but couldn't get the rub of the green until Andy Martin scored a header in injury time. Highlight of the first half was the ref tripping over Gareth Williams as he lay on the floor, falling over and 'booking' himself! Bay were better (and less violent) in the second half, but it was not so entertaining! Bay's no 5. tried to intimidate our assistant manager. However he clearly didn't know that Clarkie is a PE instructor...at HMP Frankland!

Blyth grabbed a second in the 93rd minute, Neil Radigan with an easy finish from 12 yards but then both sides were reduced to 10 men as the ref's patience ran out as McMahon and Bay's no6 exchanged blows. Both players could have no excuse for such disgraceful behaviour. Considering his lack of skill or pace that unecessary skirmish could see McMahon depart in the summer.

Did our bit Tom & Luke but looking at the table, I can't see you getting out of it.

hyde lose it...

April 20 2002, 7:47 PM

They dominated the first half, but failed to put away 3 good chances, just scoring the one, but we equalised before half time, and in the second half there was only one team in it, 2 good goals, loads of whinging by Hyde, Filson particularly, culminated in the sending off of the no.6 for foul and abusive to a linesman. Yeo looked dangerous till his hamstring went, and we did not get the hyde we expected, not much fight, and very little passion. Looks to me like Hyde may be down, but they still have hope, and I would much prefer them to Colwyn Bay staying up, best of luck

Bay deserve to go after that

April 21 2002, 9:02 AM

Colwyn were very poor and hopefully the play offs will rid us of them and it will be good riddance.
There approach yesterday was disgraceful, and the poor referee fell for it (or felt sorry for them )how Carl Furlong wasn't booked for his comical dive & childish petulence in the box beats me.
Worse was to follow when Jones punched Andy Martin, the ref spoke to the assistant before booking BOTH of them !.
Whilst not condoning McMahon, he retaliated so had to walk, the assault on him by the Bay No.6 was pure X-certificate.
Whilst were no angels, we attempt to play the beautiful game. Bay completely lost the plot, it was as if it suddenly dawned on them they could be relegated, someone should tell then its over a season not 90 minutes.

Sorry Andy

We went straight after the final whistle, because we were upset and angry and so we didn;t catch the final scores.

a different perspective

April 22 2002, 3:11 PM

Just to put things into context, the view from here is different. The 2 players had to go but it was the Bay player retaliating, after being kicked several times and then punched - he was going forward with he ball, the eventual free kick was awarded to us! The frustration from our players was based on poor decisions by the officials - one which led directly to your goal- and 'our perception' of lack of protection.

To make a sweeping statement about club's conduct based on one observation is wrong. We have been recognised by the league via the Fair Play award, Blyth I don't believe have, although they have been fined by the FA for their conduct.

I don't intend to start a war of words as the Blyth fans seemed reasonable on Saturday, face to face. They want Bishops to stay up for travel reasons, we have received support from other clubs who have for similar reasons wanted Bishops, Whitby, or Hucknall to go.

We have good relations with many clubs/supporters but accept that at times incidents cloud peoples judgement. We had nothing but praise for Burton fans and have good relations with the Barrow, others do not.

Clarifications....

April 22 2002, 5:02 PM

It was definately our man who started the late ruck, but both had to go. If I was our manager, he'd be out the door. He's not even a decent player yet at 2-0 up in injury time he starts a ruck.

Your no 5. was an animal, I genuinely think the ref was scared of him cos he got away with so much dissent. As to why your no 8 tried a volleyball move in the first half is beyone me. No 7 clocked Andy Martin one but got away with it.

I know Blyth have built up a reputation in the past but I would like to think it's one that can be erased with positive action on and off the pitch. For example fans shouting 'just kick him' are no help. I wonder if some teams come with this perception and try to match the percieved aggression level. Lancaster kicked us all over the park, yet when I saw them at home they weren't so aggressive.

more measured

April 22 2002, 5:38 PM

Less confrontational that!! We felt hard done by. We didn't deserve to win, but the officials could have have been firmer earlier with both the 'provocation' and our 'indisciplined response'. Your asst manager agreed with me after the game re. ref but asked rhetorical question of 'how many decent ones have you had?'. One of your officials also pointed out re. goal 'decisions seem to go against you when at the botttom'.

Regarding the trip north there is a perception of 'tough team, crowd, weather(!) - be strong don't get pushed about'. Simplistic I know.

Can we be friends now?!

I don't think my first post was confrontational.
