It took us long enough to get there but now we are in the premier division how do you all think we will do. Personally i think we will be comfortable mid-table. Am looking forward to derby games with Hyde, Bridge and Droylesden. Also looking forward to Whitby. So come on let me know your opinions and look forward to seeing you all down at the Cross, especially Barrow. Had an amazing game in the cup last season against them

Ashton..

I think you will do well in the prem. Look at Vauxhall, they came up and finished 2nd!
You've got a good chance, I think the league will be very open this season now Burton have gone. Waiting to see what Stalybridge are like after conference life though.
Anyway good luck and see you at The Halton Stadium and down at The Cross.

Its easier to stay up than get there !

June 17 2002, 9:20 PM

When the 'Spartans' won the 1st Division, Ashton were one of the main teams challenging back then and beating you was seen as a big result (no disrespect intended). You'll do well, when we fought off the dreaded relegation the other season everyone agreed it would be easier to stay up than try winning promotion again. It may have taken a while but it'll be worth it
Good Luck next season.

come on!

June 18 2002, 8:41 PM

This coming season should be a cracker, my early tips for the league{not including my team stalybridge} will be worksop. Relegation will be whitby and possibly either hucknall or colwyn bay! What you lot reckon.

Up and down

June 19 2002, 8:25 AM

Yes, I can see Worksop winning it. Hucknall will not be relegated, Phil Starbuck has turned the corner for them since his appointment and they will finish mid-table. I'll go along with Whitby and Colwyn Bay for automatic relegation. At the top of Division One Ossett Town will bounce back from their disappointment at the end of last season, and Spennymoor will be up there along with newly-promoted Alfreton and Kidsgrove who will challenge, if not for automatic promotion, then at least a play-off place. Kendal will not keep hold of their lifeline and will go this time. And bye-bye Belper? Although Bamber may have all on to avoid dropping straight through as we at Alfreton did a few years ago.

I think Accrington Stanley will give worksop a run for their money at the top of the Unibond - Either of these two could do it - Another good season also for Lancaster.

At the bottom Hyde and Hucknall will go - Harrogate will be in the playoffs.

Divison one will see Ossett Town And Alfreton Town get Automatic promotion with Leek Town, Witton Albion and Spennymoor in the playoffs - I feel Leek will replace
Harrogate

At the bottom its goodbye to Kendal,Lincoln united and finishing 3rd bottom Belper town who will be reprieved as yet again Bedlington Terriers will not take promotion

I GO FOR WORKSOP TO WIN THE LEAGUE BUT WATCH THIER CENTRE FORWARD AN EVEN BIGGER DIVER THAN MARK HUGHES AT HIS FINEST. WHITBY IS GREAT FOR A WEEKEND BREAK AND THE PEOPLE AT THE NORTH EAST GROUNDS ARE TOPS. TO GO DOWN I THINK HUCKNALL AND COLWYN BAY I JUST HOPE THE AVENUE HAVE A BETTER START TO THE SEASON THAN LAST YEAR. ALL IN ALL I THINK ITS A REALLY CLOSE DIVISION. I HOPE DROYLESDEN HAVE A CRAP TIME OF IT MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE NEANDERTHALS THEY CALL FANS.

If I knew what a neanderthal was, then I might be able to make a comment.

NO I THINK I WAS CORRECT IN CALLING DROYLESDEN FANS NEANDERTHALS, I`M SURE THERE ARE HOMO ERECTUS MAMMALS THAT SUPPORT DROYLESDEN BUT THEY DIDN`T COME TO THE AVENUE IN LAST YEARS F A CUP TIE
PS I THINK ACCY WILL HAVE A GREAT YEAR, EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE GEARED TO A HIGHER LEVEL AT THEIR SET UP
ITS STILL A PITY THEREFORE THAT THEY HAD TO BRIBE THE REF IN THE 2ND LEG OF THE LEAGUE CUP FINAL. MIND YOU THEY DID SERVE FANTASTIC HOT DOGS

Spelling Lessons required I think Mr Avenue DROYLSDEN!!!

I was at the FA cup tie, which you deserved to win - just! and I didnt see any problems. Although I do remember your stewards telling two of our lads leaning on the bar, to get away from the side of the pitch when there was numerous other fans doing the same thing who happened to support Bradford and werent told to move. But then again the Droylsden fans were being vocal in supporting their team. Maybe you are like Hucknall fans and dont like the noise at a match as it 'stops you thinking about the game'

I for one enjoyed the hospitality at Bradford and would go again. Its just a shame you are so far away from the pitch when watching. I was just wondering why the unkind reference to us.

FAIR DO`S YOUR FANS WERE BRILLIANTLY VOCAL AND ADDED GREATLY TO A FANTASTIC CUP TIE BUT A COUPLE OF YOUR FANS WERE A BIT OTT IN WINDING UP SOME OF OUR FANS, I`M GLAD YOU WERE MADE WELCOME BOTH B4 AND AFTER THE MATCH. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MOST OF YOU NEXT SEASON

What fans

June 23 2002, 11:33 AM

Mr Avenue & Bloodster when refering to Droylsen fans its always in the plural ie TWO fans. Because there is more chance of seeing a Dodo than a Droylsden away fan

Ups and Downs

June 23 2002, 5:31 PM

Always fun to guess before a ball has been kicked..!

Interesting that a few seem the think that we (Hucknall) will go down, this despite only losing 3 of our last 17 games last season, and retaining most of that side, and adding 2 more so far...?? wishful thinking by some I reckon. At the top, usual suspects, worksop (who we WILL beat this season), Celtic, Emley, Barrow,Lancaster, add a suprise like Vauxhall last season, maybe Harrogate, plus a dark horse, US, Park Avenue..

At the bottom, Marine, Colwyn,Ashton, Burscough, managerless Frickley (how late are the leaving it.?).

First pre season game is just over 2 weeks away, back training next friday.....close season, what close season.

At least we dont need to cheat to keep ourselves in the Premier division at the expense of better teams...ie Ossett and Bishop. What does it matter how many fans you have got at away or home matches when your team strolls to victory against Hyde!!!

It was a breeze at your ground 3-0 on a sunday afternoon. Very easy!! We even gave you a three-nil lead in the league cup at half time and you still couldnt manage a win. No wonder you finished 2nd from BOTTOM
