Alfreton Town continued their winning pre-season build-up with an 8-2 thrashing of homesters Gedling Town on Saturday.
The Reds even had a John Knapper penalty saved by ex Red 'keeper Darren Wright on 10 minutes before leading 4-0 at the break through goals from Mick Godber (4), Chris Bettney (15) and a brace from Chris Dolby on 29 and 44.
Last season's NCEL division one champions Gedling pulled one back just into the second half before Mark Highfield made it 5-1 (47) and further goals followed from Ryan France (54), substitute Jamie Robshaw (70) and Ryan Hindley (75) before Gedling took advantage of a late penalty award.
The Reds are next in action at Central Midlands League Supreme Division outfit South Normanton Athletic on Tuesday (July 30th, 7.30pm).

Hyde lost 2-0 to Manchester City reserves. City got goals on 5 minutes and 45 minutes, both due to defensive errors. Not a great performance, but it appears that Matty Taylor has re-signed for the club, which is fantastic news.
