It's interesting that I try to get people to look at what's going on in Tameside and you want to know WHO (not what) I support. I love football - so I like to travel round.
I actually support Burnley but, as I have said, I love football. I've grown weary of high priced, poor quality League football with its aggressive tribal behaviour. Even 'the Clarets' of today bore me, so I go with friends around the grounds. The first football match I was ever taken to was Bradford (PA) v Lincoln City (1960) so I still have a soft spot for Avenue. I've a mate from Worksop so I also see plenty of the Tigers too. I like the Crown Ground and Shawe View so Stanley and Trafford get a good look in over a season. I live near Manchester so we make good use of the M60 to see the plethora of teams in and around Greater Manchester.
So far this season I've been to Ilkeston Town, Sheffield FC, Nelson, your own Hyde United (another warm, friendly, comfortable place to watch football), Ashton United, Padiham, Vauxhall GM and Harrogate Town. I like the variety and good honest fayre at a reasonable price that football in the pyramid gives.
It's Stalybridge v Marine tomorrow; and since I've just found out that a colleague is playing with Droylsden I'll no doubt end up pieless there before long.
I don't know if that gives you all the info you need to work out why I keep posting UTP results and tables, but it should help with bragging rights in Tameside I suppose. I just want to see the teams work together on the two dates when they all play each other so that maybe they can arrange the fixtures so football fans can get a Tameside double-header in. Just think what good marketing of those two dates could do for the gates of the home clubs involved. But then I'm sure it's probably too much for the Tameside soccer tribes to overcome! I live in hope.
