and one very strong wind........ well done all the visiting emley fans who made it to the cross last night, put the locals to shame.
writing was always on the cards that ex player gomersal would score on the night, w&e went in 2-0 up by half time, ashton scored 2 with the wind in response.

Is there a higher ground than ours above sea level in this league?... possibly stocksbridge in div 1?

Matlock

Matlock must be higher, maybe Rossendale as well. Emley's old one probably was too.

Buxton's is the highest "senior" non-league ground in the country. Not sure if that still applies now they're in the NCEL.

Glad to see Ashton holding their own after they spent so long trying to get up.

matlock???

matlock's ground is in the bottom of a valley

if anyone has ever been in the nw counties league then they might know holker old boys, on a hilltop in cumbria. that really takes the prize

Holker Old Boys

Holker Old Boys ground is actually in Barrow and well, it's not quite on a hilltop, in fact Rakesmoor Lane is no where near a hill top!!!!!!

dizzy heights

As someone already said, Buxton was always acknowledged to be the highest, but it depends on how far down the scale you go - what about some of the Lake District grounds in, say, the Carlisle and District League? Places like Ambleside? The original query though was UniBond League grounds, and my guess would be Stocksbridge.

Never been to Stocksbridge but Rossendale must be up there as would the old village ground in Emley.

As for Holker Old Boys Brassic, its at the top of a hill yes but barely above sea level compared to most grounds, BPA's included I would imagine.

hazy distant memories

October 17 2002, 12:44 PM

maybe i'm confusing holker with someone else, we went once and it did seem very high, but "it were when I were nobbut a lad"

as for above sea level, I would suspect horsfall is actually highest or close, as just up the road is (what claims to be) one of the highest towns/villages in the country.

anyway, we have the windiest bowl, i'd wager.

I was always under the impression that the highest senior ground in England was that of Tow Law Town in the Northern League.
Highest FL ground is a bit of a surprise - West Bromwich Albion

Lowest and highest

October 17 2002, 10:40 PM

Emley's old ground was at 196 metres (approx 637 ft) from Ordance Survey map. Buxton looks like approx 280 metres.

Emley still use the Welfare Ground for Reserves games and Sheffield and hallamshire senior Cup games.

(not comment about W&E - have been told that name will change for next season)

Lowest ground

Forgot to suggest Southport. ie by the sea and flat countryside, unlike Scarborough
Also possibly Weston Super Mare and Kings Lynn.

Boston could be lowest ground in league but possibly South east grounds as well

Emley

Maybe Wakefield & Emley could merge with Bishop Auckland

They could call themselves Emley Bishop

Just a thought

Brilliant - Funniest comment this season.
It about sums Bishops up at the moment. The worrying thing for them is that if they are relegated this season, the Northern League have said that they cannot consider them because their rules do not accept a groundsharing club.
As for their new ground, that's as big a pipedream as winning the World Cup.Rumors are that they arein court soon over unpaid fees to a local consultancy company.Watch out for a merger with NorthernLeague Shildon. If teams like Derby County and Leicester City think they have money problems, they pale in significance as compared with Bishops. If ever a club was teetering on the edge then this is it, only their supporters don't know it.
