Re: FA Cup draw

How come Spennymoor don't get capital letters? Overall I think the draw could have been kinder to UniBond sides although Hucknall/Vauxhall could make a bit from a home clash with QPR.

I bet Hucknall Town/Vauxhall Motors v QPR will be a contender for the live match on the BBC or at least the main match on the highlights show.

If it's us,and i doubt it on today's performance

October 26 2002, 8:30 PM

We would move the game to either a local stadium, Notts County or Mansfield, or let them have home advantage

Match report to follow, so you can see why I think Vauxhall may have the problem, not us

Hucknall Town were offered 4 get out of jail cards, but only used one of
them as the earned an undeserved 1-1 draw with Vauxhall Motors, and a
potential home tie against Queens Park Rangers in the 1st round of the FA
Cup.
Town manager Phil Starbuck declared himself fit (but was proved
wrong),as Hucknall stayed with a 4-4-2 formation against a Vauxhall side
who's current form was nothing short or remarkable, having disposed of
Ganisborough Trinity 6-1 in the last round.
After Hucknall's recent 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Vauxhall, they can
be forgiven for expecting a tough time, but the first half proved to be a
dull affair, with neither side able to dominate, and chances at a premium.
Vauxhall had the first chance after 7 minutes, but Steve Aspinall fired well
over from 15 yards. On 16 minutes Danny Mayman had Town's first chance,
heading over from a corner. Sean Farrell saw a tame shot go wide after 34
mintues, and on 40 Aspinall again saw a shot cleared, after hitting the bar
from 25 yards. Just before half time, Fearns for Vauxhall fired high and
wide, and then Starbuck hit a 30 yard free kick well over the bar.
A vey subdued crowd saw the whistle blow at half time, with the score at
0-0, and little indication of the fun to follow

The second half started well for Town, Cooke firing over from long
range, and Lenagh, a half time sub for Starbuck, starting to link the
midfield. After 48 minutes Vauxhall midfielder Kevin Lynch had a rush of
blood, and kicked out at Danny Mayman, right under the refs nose, he had no
hesitation in showing a red card, and Vauxhall's most influential midfielder
departed. Just 4 minutes late Vauxhall were reduced to 9 men, as Fearns
stupidly struck out with an elbow, and once again the referee, stood no more
than 10 feet away, had no hesitation in showing the red card. The
opportunity was now there for Hucknall, but they failed to capitalise, and
despite having plenty of possession, it was Vauxhall who looked the more
dangerous, chasing down every loose ball, and working hard for each
other, something missing from Town's game.. On 63 minutes, Jamie Mcgown saw a
25 yard effort well held by Ralph, and 2 minutes later, Nangle hit the bar
from a corner, as Town looked to dominate
Vauxhall however were well organised and looked very composed when in
possession, and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 73 minutes.
Nicky Young was put through on the right side of the box by Aspinall, he
pushed the ball passed Young, and scored a superb goal from a tight angle.
2 minutes later and Town were handed their 3rd get out of jail card, the
Referee awarding a Penalty for a foul on Nangle. Danny Mayman too
responsibiltiy and fired his shot low and to the keepers left, which is the
way he went, pushing the ball clear. Vauxhall were happy to run the clock
down, Nicky Young proving to be a very dangerous outlet, and he should have
increased Vauxhall's lead on 80 minutes. he sliced through Hucknall's
defence, forced the ball over Ryan Young, and only a last ditch clearence by
Steve Prindiville kept Hucknall in the game.
On 84 minutes Town were offered another lifeline. The referee blew for a
free kick for Town for handball, but then noticed the linesman with his flag
across his chest, and awarded Town their second penalty of the game. This
time Steve Prindiville stepped up, and sent the keeper the wrong way to
bring Hucknall level.
Despite a frantic last 5 minutes, the game finished all square, with
Vauxhall players and management not too pleased with the Referee's display,
though to be fair, the Vauxhall offenders left him with little option.
manager Phil Starbuck was less than pleased with Town's performance, and
they will have to improve 200 percent at Tuesday nights replay, to give
themselves a chance of pitting their wits against league opposition.

It'd be quite amusing to see a couple of thousand of QPR fans trying to find their way to Vauxhall Motor's ground
