4 horse race?

well the race for conference footy next year is down to
accrington, vauxhall, worksop with outsiders stalybridge mounting a serious challenge after a poor start to the season.

accrington have thrown money at there so called stars and have a decent lead but with them slowing up and vauxhall on a remarkable run of form and games in hand they havent won it yet.
worksop are quietly sneeking up and have games in hand on accy too and should be in there come may.
stalybridge have played a few games more than the others and are a long way back but are winning games for fun and racing after the leaders.

accy are the arrogant brats of the title race with not many neutrals giving them there backing, vauxhall are the fairy tale side who have my vote and are building a great momentum at the minute.
stalybridge are the late chargers who at present dont seem to close to challenging but if they keep on as they are they wont be too far back come may.
then theres worksop, the chelsea of the piece, quietly winning and hauling back the leaders and looking good.

come may i think it will finish:
1) vauxhall motors
2) worksop
3) accrington stanley
4) stalybridge celtic

and how most of us will laugh if accy fail, all the money theyve put into the team, the boasts of there arrogant and rascist fans.
to be honest ive seen accy play barrow 3 times this year and they have been remarkably aveage each time, of the twice we beat them once was with a team of reserves, i knew more accy players than barrow that night!
they must have something to be up there but i seriously doubt they have what it takes to win it, and im gonna laugh so hard when they fail, come on anyone but accys rascist, oh an kipax is a right uppity swine.

I AGREE, WE HAVE PLAYED THE CLAMPETTS TWICE THIS SEASON AND ON BOTH OCCASIONS YOU WOULDN`T HAVE THOUGHT ACCY WERE THE LEAGUE LEADERS.
IN FACT WE WERE ONCE AGAIN ROBBED BY THE REF. I NOW KNOW WHY THEIR GATES HAVE TAILED OFF RECENTLY ITS BECAUSE FANS AREN`T GOING TO TURN UP TO WATCH A PANTOMIME WHERE THE RESULT IS A FOREGONE CONCLUSION, NOT BECAUSE OF ONES TEAMS SUPERIORITY BUT OF THE REF MAKING SURE ACCY WIN AT ALL COSTS.
THATS TWICE THIS YEAR WE HAVE BEEN VICTIMISED BY THE REF AT ACCY, AT AVENUE WE DON`T MIND LOSING (WE R USED TO IT) BUT WE LEFT ACCY ON SATURDAY NIGHT FEELING SICK KNOWING THAT HOW WELL WE PLAYED WE WOULD HAVE NEVER GOT ANYTHING OUT OF THAT GAME.
ACCY SEEM TO BE WELL ORGANISED AND THEIR NUMBER 7 AND 9 LOOK GOOD BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT, THEY NEED TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON PLAYERS OR REFS TO SURVIVE IN THE CONFERENCE

Title race

December 18 2002, 11:39 AM

There's no doubt in my mind that, currently, Celtic are the best team I have seen but I think their poor start will prove too much for them to catch up. Having said that they are the team I want to win it. Unfortunately, I think Accy will win it as they will not drop the number of points required for someone else to catch them up.

The real question is whether any of the 4 teams you have mentioned are good enough to stay up ; I would back only Stalybridge to have a fighting chance!!!!

Title Race

Hmmm, personally think that stanley will win it but i the race is wide open. Like alty fan said, we had a bad start so i doubt we (stalybridge) will win the title, but if you look at the premiership liverpool were seven points clear with games in hand and look what has happened now. If we stand any chance of winning it other teams will have to beat stanley as well as us beating worksop at home and vauxhall away. As faras the title goes my reasons behind them winning is because they have points on the board. Vauxhalls title challenege i think will fall down because they may suffer as a result of the good cuprun and backlog of fixtures at the end of the season. Worksop will be up there but i dont think they will and what of stalybridge.

we, after our dodgy start are now playing the best football in our league. only problem is now we are dependant on others taking points off worksop, accy and vauxhall. Even so i will still be keeping the faith

up the blues

Responding to 'AVENUE' guy. We have also played Accrington twice and you would not know that they were top. When we played them away - they had won their first 9 games. We defended well and broke well but they got a lucky penalty to score. We also scored a penalty four minutes from the end. We should have won though.
Same at home a couple of weeks ago, we hit the woodwork twice and out No.7 (Day!) missed two sitters. They didn't test our keeper once throughout the match. Two draws for us.
We seem to be the Draw Team this season

I think we'll finish 5th again this season. It will be a miracle if we got up their to challenge again as we have played more games.

As always, we have beaten the good sides this season and lost to the bottom - half sides.
For example, we beat Bradford PA 2-0 easily at home. Drew twice against Stalybridge and Accrington, beaten Whitby and drawn and won against Ashton. But drawn against Hyde, just beaten Gateshead, lost at Colwyn Bay, lost at Blyth and drawn against Hucknall at home.

Up the Pewits on saturday at Runcorn.

Two draws with Ashton, the suprise packet of the season.

We have gone through a bit of an ify spell at the moment as any new team to the division will, but if league performances match that against a fairly strong Accrington team from last night ( 4-2 by the way to Ashton) then we should start picking up points again.

Up the Robins ( Not alty )

Hmm

December 18 2002, 7:41 PM

Accy and penalties seems to be a recurring theme, they got one in Injury time aaginst us when Lutel James took a tumble and they squared the match at 3-3.

And they always complain about having a bad ref, I wish we had refs who gives us pens every week, we have had enough given against us.

See the Accy fans spat and shouted Racist abuse at Bradford PA's German Keeper Lutz Pfanwhateveryournameis.

Did the Bradford fan hear that?

Jealousy. We're nine clear at Christmas. Ok weve had a bit of luck along the way but who cares?? You need luck sometimes - just look where we are. It would be suicide if we gave it up now. If youre all soooooo good why arent you top???

Someone who does not support anyone in unibond league

December 18 2002, 8:23 PM

Well im a Assistant Referee on the unibond and nwcfl div 1. I reckon accringtoin stanley will win the league.I think its a 3 horse race. Ive only had worksop and stalybridge this season. I thought stalybridge where really poor. They have played to many games more then everyone else. I think its a bit much a barrow fan saying that acc fans are bad. look at your own. you think daylight 4 offsides is for unibond too. Its only 4 the premiership. Barrow fans idiots. i wonder if u lot have ever praised a referee before. sept from slagging them off. i hope vouxall motors win the league. What they have done in the last three season is fairy tale stuth. good luck to vauxall but if i get u i will not cheat, cause us officiols never doo. We try our best and never cheat. looked forward to going to barrow, always good atmosphere up there. shame the fans dont know any laws up there.

adios fans

I know its only Xmas and there is still half a season left to play, but some Worksop fans are already planning for at least another season in the Unibond next year. Ok we have a big money man but he's only gonna put in if he's gonna get cash back off the whole outfit. So who knows I think thats itll be down to more than four teams you never know what will happen in the next half season?

December 18 2002, 10:29 PM

as a whitbytown man, its pretty clear that we have been fighting a bit above our weight this season.

of all the teams in the unibond, i'd like to see WORKSOP TOWN and those damned whippets go up, apart from us. mind you, we'll be lucky to be still here next year, with our ground at the moment.

I ain't seen everyone, but from what i've been told, stalybridge were okay at our place, but not the best so far. the now struggling Bradford were the best.

Just a thought. But has anyone cared to look at the league table lately. Considering Accrington are so bad they seem to be in a nice position

Just to join in.

I would like Accy to go up for the story of going bust reforming etc etc. But we have played them at accy this season and got beat 2-1 I certainly didnt think we deserved to lose and didnt think they were as great as the league showed. Personally I think Worksop will go up. Us to finish top 8 maybe top 5

Lively discussion

December 19 2002, 8:34 AM

Well Mr Chief you certainly sparked a lively discussion with a seemingly innocent thread. As usual, the Accy fans come on, take the bait and show why most of us do not want to see them go up. However, it has to be said that while many people seem to think they are not that good, the league table does not lie and they continue to stay in a strong position.

Up the Alty, and while we are not in the race up the Bridge!!!!

We [vauxhalls] feel that we are good enough to win the league. However with gates averaging about 220 we would not be able to survive in the Conference. Things have probably happened to quick for us. We need to build up a bigger fanbase and improve the ground, then we can plan to join the Conference and stay there.

Worksop are the best team ive seen this season but Accy are the team to catch. However a few of us have had money on Vaux to win the league at 28/1

Taking the bait...

December 20 2002, 11:17 AM

Hahaha

Ok lets slag off Alty and see if you dont come on and stick up for your team. Taking the bait?? Taking the mick more like. Im not getting too confident - like you say - we are only half way and we dont have a Burton Albion hold on the league (yet!).

But the only team we are looking out for at the moment are Vauxhall to be honest. In the last month we have played 4 of the top 6 and taken 10 points off them. Id like to see Barrow or Alty do the same.

If Hyde United play like they did against us every week they wouldnt be bottom. Its obvious teams are raising their game when coming up against us this season which can only be a compliment to our side surely - We are taking that challenge on very well so far (see league table - whats that? 2 defeats in 24??).

As for being linked with 'any old ex-pro' - thats just a farcical comment to make. I bet you wish experienced ex pros were interested in your club or playing for your club in front of gates never below 800 at home.

As regards to the refs, yes we have had our fair share of crap decisions just like everyone else has but what can you expect at this level?? They arent all gonna be as good as that bold headed italian (Calina is it??). People expect too much. Hopefully the quality will be better in the Conference - higher paid officials etc etc.

not too confidnet jimbo? in the play off thread you say "we WILL win it this year", sounds confident to me!

as for us wanting to be linked to any ex pro to play in front gates never below 800, our gates are better and we had marsh before you did, hes a barrow reject.
we also had mutch, seagraves and higgins, so we've had old pros before and id rather we didnt go that way again.

jimbo you are an a*se and kipax, well the less said the better, everytime i mention stanleys short comings on there board he deletes, he has only been a stanley fan for about half a season so why bother with that guy?

Barrow are and always be a bigger club than accy and theres nothing you can do about that.

we've done it all before and will do again.

Cheify weify, Im more confident in the fact that you wont win it which pleases me ever the so more.

Bigger club my backside. What sort of a catchment area for fans do you have?? A bloody big one - youre shortest away trip is 2hrs away - what does that say??
Back o beyond to me - dunno bout u.

We have to unfortunately compete with Blackburn and Burnley for fans yet we still get the 2nd best (I will give you that much) crowd average. Just wait till we go up and more 'Kipaxs' come by. I bet youll be surprised. Tell u sumat Cheify, WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE SAY WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE

Well...

December 21 2002, 12:45 PM

I might as well join in, looks like everyone else has! One thing I know for certain is that we will not win the league for at least another 3 seasons. There was talk from people at the beginning of this season that we were the 'dark horses' to look out for. Erm...didn't really work out that way did it?? Never mind, we have no ground, a fan base of 280, no proper name, no money...the list could go on. And with all that you get people arguing over whose club is the biggest! Be grateful you have a club to argue over, becuase we (like so many others) nearly had no club at all.
Anyway, enough doom and gloom for one post. Good luck to whoever wins the league, its going to be a long hard slog. On a lighter note HAPPY CHRISTMAS and dont drink too much!

vauxhall are the most consistent team in the league and it is now in their own hands, 11 wins from 12 games, over 3 months unbeaten in the league who can stop them. Cheers Hucknall on a great result today.
