Well from a Whitby Town perspective i'll tell you on boxing day night.

We lost to Vauxhall yesterday, but from our point of view we should have got a draw. Our defence was pants!

Motors, good team. Well organised, quick on the break, can't give them a sniff. Best i've seen ...SO FAR!

How will accrington react to the Hucknall defeat then.....?? I 'd like to know the state of the pitch at Watnall Road as the weather in Notts has been pants last week. Was it boggy and cutting up. If it was an stanley didn't like it then they'll the Turnbull.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you.

The pitch was fine for Hucknall,so I can only assume it was ok for Stanley, both sides passed the ball well, we were the better side and deserved our victory.
The pitch had been sanded and rolled prior to the game, to give quite a firm surface, it cut up a bit, but not as bad as previous years.

Clint Marcelle's left foot volley from the edge of the box was a superb goal, I am more and more suprised that Harrogate let him go.

From what I have seen, Vauxhall are the team most likely to win the league, but Stanley have the points, and that could be enough, depends if they learn from yesterday, or let their heads drop, could be an interesting few weeks. Vauxhall seem to be able to win, even if they are not playing well. Marsh did not play yesterday, i think they missed him. The Bollicking coming from the away dressing room after the game was worth listening too..!!!!!

Marsh didnt play and niether did our penalty stopping ever present keeper Jamie Spiers.. However those are not excuses and the better team won on the day. A match winning goal to say the least.

A good day out with friendly supporters and even a few worksop fans in the crowd..

I know its old hat but how many times have you seen ten men cause problems.. You can watch fooball at any level and it is not a foregone conmclusion that you have an advantage playing against ten men.. far from it.

Like I say.. any team that wins a game is the better team.

Vauxhall... like the man said.. we have the points in the bag. vauxhalls points are on paper. If they win ALL there games in hand then they will pass us. thats fact. they are on the best run of any team this season thats also fact. Our game at there palce yet to be given a date could be a BIG BIG game.

The question now is.. can vauxhall keep up this excellent run.. they not only need to keep it up just to catch us but hope our bad run keeps going. Are any of you willing to bet that they can keep winning EVERY GAME to the end of the season and that Accrington are going to stay on a bad run..I know some of you hope that (for whatever reason) but can you see it happening?

Makes for a more interesting second half to the season...Only time will tell..

i cant see vauxhall winning ALL there games til the end of the season but they dont have to do they, well not unless you win all your games and it aint going to happen.
all the teams are going to drop points but vauxhall are building momentum and are rolling on and on, after accys great start they havent done consistently well have they? there form has been pretty average since.

i also notice when they lose, they lose a few on the bounce as has happened twice so far.
i think whoever wins it will be close and interesting, my moneys on vauxhall at the minute but its anyone from 4, accy, worksop, vauxhall and stalybridge who are dark horses also on a great run.

Certainly could happen again. Away to Whitby on boxing day is going to be a hard fixture.. I agree with what you say up to the contenders.. At the moment its looking like the contenders are (In alphabetical order) Accy , Vauxhall and Worksop

But with half a season to go it is maddness to suggest only those three. Look what Vauxhall have done in less than half a season ?? Why does no one think any other team can't do the same. yes Vauxhall are on a magnificent run. So was Accy.. Whats to say Another team can suddenly go on a simmilar run while everyone else flaunders.

Theres a long way to go and I am betting on a few more suprises before it all ends.

Fag-packet calculation

December 23 2002, 10:40 AM

By my calculations, and this is only rough and ready, but if Hyde United win all of their remaining 18 games, they will have 64 points.

As this is is 10 points more than Accrington, they look theorietically possible of winning.

However, even assuming Stanley never win again, I'm fairly sure that it's not actually mathemtically possible for Hyde to go up, as other teams will have to beat Stanley in order for them to get no points, and therefore these other teams will end up with more points than Hyde.

In other words, there are some teams who don't have any chance.

Personally, I think the end of the season will be:

1.Vauxhall Motors
2.Stalybridge Celtic
3.Accrington Stanley
...
21.Gateshead
22.Colwyn Bay
23.Hyde United

With all of the bottom three getting relegated.

Accrington will then announce that they are bust because without Conference Football, they cannot exist, sell all of their players, and get relegated the season afterwards. Motors will scrape survival in the Conference, and be joined by Stalybridge, who then get into the top half of the Conference just in time for the creation of Division 3 North/South, and become a League club again.

Iain

P.S. I see 6 numbers: 13, 21, 22, 34, 36 and 41. I don't know what they mean though.

You wouldn't be able to take what I'm on Jimbo, me lad.

The pill would be too bitter for you to swallow.

Iain.

P.S. Chill - I've got a greased clockwork train that's harder to wind up than you.

P.P.S. 8-2 on aggregate? History. We'll both be in this division next season.
