What does anyone think of the Conference proposals as published in NLP? Personally I think they are a non-starter for next season, because I can't see the FA allowing the Conference to move promotion and relegation goalposts in mid-season. But the season after?
can't see how club would be able to afford the extra travelling involved.
sureley the way forward would be more regionalised competition further up the ladder, ie div 2 and 3 north and south with the conference joining the FL. what good would getting rid of regionalised leagues do?
But how many clubs can afford the expense of a national league. Rather than being the road to riches, I can see this proposal (if they go with a national Conference 2nd division) as putting even more pressure on clubs.
Teams like Shepshed are already going to the wall. We need a solution that reduces costs, not increases them.
One of the proposals is for a regionalised Conference lower tier, which would largely take care of the travelling, because member clubs would effectively not have appreciably longer journeys than they do now. The only thing as far as current UniBond League clubs are concerned is that the north-south dividing line would be further south, maybe bringing in clubs as far south as Birmingham. So the likes of Stafford, Halesowen, Hednesford, Ilkeston etc (if they qualify) would probably go north.
Well we recently had a trip to Tamworth (as Im sure youre all aware we got wasted) but that aside, it wasnt an unbearable voyage. Might not be such a bad idea but I can see the extra costs being a big NO factor for many people including myself. How would clubs/fans of teams like Gateshead and Whitby and Barrow feel about another 2 hours onto a journey? Be quicker to fly.
