Having lived in the Tameside area for over 10 years now i have followed the fortunes of its 4 big teams with great interest. Although i have no connection with any one club my connection is with non league football and i care about the fortunes of each club. There have been some great moments for the area including Hyde United's FA Trophy runs, Stalybridge Celtic's treble winning side, Ashton United's progression through the ranks to become a force to be reckoned with in the league, and Droyslden have never ever settled for the boring life.
Being present at Hyde United's mauling by Celtic on New Years Day (6-0 sorry Tigers) made we think how for many clubs the wheel of fortune spins and good spells are followed by barren spells, and if the barren spells are survived then the good times can roll again. There must be some stories out there.
My time of watching the football up here has seen the likes of South Liverpool, Irlam Town, Colne Dynamoes and Eastwood Hanley amongst others go. Teams such as Buxton, Curzon Ashton, Penrith and Mossley have fallen on hard times, but other teams have risen and progressed. Having previously watched Ryman/Diadora/Isthmian Football or whatever it has been called for 15 odd years prior to becoming upping sticks northwards i would honestly say Northern Premier Football is the best for atmosphere, suuporters, characters, grounds, and football itself. So whoever you support stick by your team but also remember your rivals as they all make this league what it is.
