postponed

Ashton had a lot less standing water than this and even though the ref took until 2:58 to call off the game, I still think it was the right decision.

Your game obviously looks like it shoudn't have gone ahead.

That surface looks absolutely perfect!..........for growing rice.

I couldn't get down to see the Nailers yesterday but apparently our pitch was an absolute quagmire too, still... we won

Bet you would have said nothing if you had won!!!!
So,Stop carping ,and as Bobby Jones said" Play the course as you find it".Your just sore because you lost 3 pts and that is 6 pts lost in the last two games!

And tell me where I was winging???? FOur players injured answers most of the questions, the pitch was put simply unsuitable for a game at this level.
Now thats not me saying it, but a very disillusioned groundsman at Matlock yesterday!!!!

game on

On the evidence of your pictures it looked as if it should have been off. But it's increasingly hard to call games off at this stage of the season because when do you fit them in - play three matches a week? Also, it was reported that play went ahead because both teams wanted to play it, and if that was the case, then can you really argue afterwards? It was the same for both sides.

Spot on that man-Once the managers agree to play that is the that-The radcliffe manager could have said no and he declined to do so-The rules are quite specific on this and if anyone is to blame then it must be the radcliffe manager and the matlock one. They had the option but went ahead. You cannot when the game is lost by you, then say "we should not have played" and cry about it!The result stands and will not be altered.

Excuse me but....

March 9 2003, 9:00 PM

I have gone through this thread and cannot see anywhere where I have been winging. Please feel free to point it out??????
For those who think I am then I think its time you went back to Primary schol to learn to read.
Anyway onto the decision to play, WHEN WILL THE OFFICALS AT THIS LEVEL TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY. THIS ONE COULDN'T EVEN TELL A PLAYER HE HAD BEEN SENT OFF, HE FOUND OUT IN THE BAR AFTER THE GAME.
The decision should never have been in the managers hands, do you think that pitch looked any different 3-4 hours earlier.
We had an indepth converstation with the a very didillusioned groundsman at half time.
This conversation started with "Theyve ruined the ****** pitch".
He stated at 8-30 if we have more than 30 mins rain then it will be unsuitable. Well they had 6 hours of rain!!!!!!!
Why wait until the opposing manager is there????? You don't if it is frozen then offer it to the managers, if it is unsafe or the game will be a lottery then it should be off, both of these stood.
Of course Matlock wanted to play it was, by there own managers comments there best chance.
Why did Matlock not get an early inspection.

Radcliffe..are they any good...

March 11 2003, 8:53 PM

.....couldn't possibly tell at Matlock, apart from the keeper who is obviously a good swimmer. Reports from fellow Alfreton supporters who went to Radcliffe were that they are one of the best we've played this season, look forward to next Tuesday's game. Weather reports are for a windy but dry week so we shouldn't be playing to Matlock rules.
