BARROW AFC APPOINT NEW MANAGER

Barrow AFC is pleased to announce the appointment of LEE TURNBULL as their new manager following the resignation of Kenny Lowe for work and family reasons at the weekend.

Chairman Brian Keen held a meeting of the Barrow board on Monday evening when the club’s options were discussed including a review of applications already received from interested parties. These were of a high calibre.

With the board’s mandate, Keen then met with Turnbull, formerly Kenny Lowe’s number two, yesterday evening to discuss the vacancy and gather information required by the board as to Turnbull’s plans if he were to be successful in landing the job.

Brian said “Following my meeting with Lee the board are unanimous in their opinion that he is the best man to take Barrow AFC forward in the manner we would wish. Lee was an ultimate professional in our meeting and has many exciting plans for the progression of the club. His ideas, contacts and enthusiasm are second to none and he already has several players lined up for next season. He also has the full backing of his employers at S****horpe United, to whom Barrow are very grateful, and of his family. I have no doubt that we have made the best decision for the interests of Barrow AFC”

The board are keen to build on the last four years of continual improvement and see Lee Turnbull as a natural successor to Kenny Lowe to enhance the achievements of his reign and to further improve the existing squad.

Brian added “I would also like to place on record once again the club’s thanks to Kenny for all his hard work and honesty. He has been a pleasure to work with and is a true gentlemen. He has always worked with the board and co-operated with any demands placed upon him. He will be missed but we respect his decision and in Lee we have the man to take the club forward again.”

Well looking AT that report barrow should go well again this season!
Do you think of the players that are their now will leave?
If you get some youngsters from S****horpe they should compete really well in a league which is quite physical!

my bet is still on Southport to win the title though!!!!!

I know a couple are leaving - they were going to anyway even before the change of manager, and there maybe others that Lee decides are past it.

Towards the end of the season we had a number of young lads from S****horpe playing for us, some good some not so and I'd expect that to be the main area we attract players from. In fact one lad (Steve Ridley) was released by Scunny in March and played so well for us we heard they are looking at offering him another contract so its a good place for the players to come and better themselves.

With stability and continuity in the squad we should be challenging up around the top again next season. I'm not making any predictions though because I believe it will be a very close season next year, just as many predicted this year before Accrington went on their spendathon.
