What does he mean 'back in the league'. This club was formed in 1968 and have never been members of the Football League.

That was the New Accrington Stanley! the old folded a while before that- But the Name lives on and it would be great to see the Name back in the Football league.

old league clubs

OK, they're not the originals, but they've been re-born, just as Aldershot Town replaced the old Aldershot. Like Stanley, they are promoted to the Conference (from Ryman), and it would have been great if Newport County had gone up from the Dr Martens to make it a trio of phoenix clubs who have risen from the ashes of their predecessors. Good luck to Accie in the Conference (and keep on drinking the milk...)

Sigh... What the actual message from the management and chairman is..

Management AIM for playoffs
Chairman AIM for league.

Managament state.. If you AIM to just go out and survive then what happens if you achieve this half way through the season.. ...do you then pack up?.. You have to set targets high. No manager worth his salt in any league will start a season aiming to just survive

No one really expects us to make the playoffs or gte promoted..Lets face it as the new boys we are probably favoroutes to go back down.. But the whole club firmly believe accy can keep there place in the conference.. You set targets as high as you can and see what happens.

Its really all just common sense..tell me whitby.. whats your teams targets?

Stanley - First club to go bust twice?

May 23 2003, 1:09 PM

Eric Whalley must be mad!

He has signed a first division player on first division wages - Paul Cook is on £1,800 per week, and is ready to splash out on others, leaving the existing players felling a bit leftout!

He's not offered a single penny extra to any of the existing squad for next season in the conference, and if they are struggling at Christmas he'll be back to his old tricks and will get the axe out of the cupboard - watch your back Mr Coleman!

Wouldn't it be funny if they came down after one season
