Glavin in line for big return to Barnsley Jun 30 2003
By Doug Thomson, The Huddersfield Daily Examiner

WAKEFIELD and Emley manager Ronnie Glavin could become head coach at Barnsley. (THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED ON YORKSHIRE REGIONAL TV TONIGHT!!)

The 52-year-old, who was a huge favourite as a player at Oakwell between 1979-84, has had preliminary talks with the Icelandic consortium due to take over the Second Division club.

Glaswegian Glavin, who has been in charge of UniBond League Emley since November 1994 and has led the former Huddersfield District League club to the biggest achievements in their history, would work alongside former Stoke boss Gudjon Thordarsson, who is set to replace Glyn Hodges.

"There is a way to go before anything is finalised, but I have had preliminary talks with the Icelandic consortium," confirmed Glavin, who has kept Wakefield and Emley chairman Peter Matthews informed.

"You listen to any offer which comes along, and I clearly have an affinity with Barnsley and their supporters."

Scotland cap Glavin, who also played for Partick Thistle, Celtic, Stockport and Portugual's Belenenses before finishing in the USA, went into management with Frickley in 1991.

He led Emley on a highly memorable FA Cup run which brought a third-round tie at West Ham in 1997-98.

Then in 2000-01, he came within an ace of guiding the club into the Conference.

Emley totted up a massive 101 points, but Stalybridge took the title by a point.

The club finished 12th in the UniBond last season, when Glavin was working to a tight budget.

Statto says:

Any bets on who will take over .. Gary Brook ex Ossett Town is my starter for 10.

i was disappointed gary resigned at Ossett because he did wonders for our club,i hope he applies for the Emley job and gets it because he deserves the recognition of his achievments here at Ossett despite all the barriers a certain chairman put in his way.
I was told the other night at the club that the reason Gary resigned was because of an alleged personel grudge that Mr Firth(chairman)had against him in response to a certain article he was alleged to have written.
TRUTH HURTS EH !!!
good luck Gary
