ALFRETON Town lifted the Derbyshire Centenary Cup in their first ever appearance in the competition to leave Chesterfield's first team feeling blue as two second half goals saw off the Nationwide Division Two neighbours 2-0.
A gate of 911 witnessed Alfreton deservedly clinch their seventh piece of silverware in the past 16 months as a Mick Goddard 20-yard lob just 17 seconds into the second half was added to by an Alan O'Hare own goal on 75 minutes - the fault wasn't his though as goalkeeper Andy Richmond sliced thin air and allowed an intended back pass to roll under his foot and into the net.
Town however, had missed two golden chances in the first half and their cutting edge outshone the Spireites to the fact that the Blues managed just one corner in each half while the Reds chalked up 10 flag kicks throughout a superb display.
There were numerous pleasing performances from Reds players with Chris Bettney edging man of the match.
It was a second successive victory over Football League opponents in four days for the Reds following a 2-1 home win over Mansfield Town on Tuesday.

The Reds continue their pre-season friendly build-up when they travel to the Moat Ground to take on Gresley Rovers next Wednesday (July 30th).
Leicester City then provide glamourous opposition next Friday (August 1st) at North Street.
Both games kick-off at 7.30pm.
