Details revealed for Play-off Finals!

The Ice Hockey Superleague is delighted to announce that the Finale of the ice hockey season, the Superleague Play-off Finals, will again be staged at the superb National Ice Centre in Nottingham.

This magnificent state of the art facility, located in the heart of Nottingham, has hosted dozens of top class events, and last season proved the perfect platform to stage the Superleague’s prestigious Play-off Finals.

With the very highest standard of ice hockey on show, the Play-off Finals generate an atmostphere that, if you could bag it and sell it, would make you a millionaire, guaranteeing fans a weekend to remember!

And the fantastic City of Nottingham itself has lots to offer, with an extensive selection of pubs, clubs, restaurants and café’s, an abundance of shops, and a wide range of hotels and guest houses to suit all budgets.

The Superleague Play-off Semi-Finals will be played on Saturday 30th March 2002, followed by the ‘Main Event’, the Superleague Play-off Final, on the 31st March 2002.

Superleague’s Events Manager, Hannah Tattersall, said. “The 2002 Finals are set to be another Superleague spectacular. We decided to bring the event back to Nottingham this season because the facilities on offer, especially the second ice pad, really gave the Finals that added extra. The feedback we received from fans was extremely positive and I’m sure anyone who attended would agree that it was a fabulous mix of ice hockey and fun!”

General Manager of the National Ice Centre, Vern Neil, commented. “We are absolutely delighted to welcome the Superleague Play-off Finals Weekend back to the NIC. Having staged the Finals once already, this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. Our superb facility is the ideal venue for fans from across the UK to meet and party all weekend.”

Ticket details will be released shortly. Keep your eyes on www.ICEweb.co.uk for further information.

The only other option as I understand it was Manchester, and from a fans perspective the atmosphere in a sold out 7,500 seat building will be better than in a half empty 17,000 seat building will be better. It was always going to be expensive, but at least in Nottingham you have the second rink and extra space for other things like trade stalls etc.

Trade Stalls..

January 9 2002, 3:12 PM

well its ok having all that space for stands etc, if they actually get some to fill it up..last years showing was paltry...and not a patch on the likes we have seen at Wembley and Manchester..

The other thing about Manc is that there was obvious space for 'walk ups'..some people may decide that the final looked interesting and ambled up down and oer to the rainy city for the day..
Chuff all chance in nottingham..especially at the prices they are gonna charge..

Re: Trade Stalls..

The reason there wasn't as many trade stands is because the league were charging £1000 for them. You're absolutely right in thinking that it should be dirt cheap to put stalls in and encourage plenty of them. But lets hope the league (for once) is reasonable.

You're right about the walk up crowd element but I honestly believe it would be better to have a full building rather than a half empty one.

Sadly This Wont Happen In Nottingham This Year

January 9 2002, 4:02 PM

With the demise of two ISL teams and the deep resentment of the ISL and poor results (understandable in the currect crisis) coming from the HOS I dont see more than 5,000 even at last years prices.

With a bit of luck

January 9 2002, 4:40 PM

If both Sheffield and Nottingham do not qualify for the play off finals, then it will be lucky to be even near half sold out, which would lead to even more financial problems for the ISL. With a bit of luck then we can get rid of the current inept management in the ISL, and hopefully get people in who would lead the ISL out of the wilderness it is in.

Official Steelers hairshirts now on sale...

January 10 2002, 9:23 AM

Well if you don't want to show up that's fine with the rest of us.

Me, I've already got the hotel booked (12 rooms so far and counting) and I'll be enjoying the end of season party like I have done every year for the last 10.

The way I see it, the play off weekend is a chance for the fans to let our hair down before the summer. It's not JUST about the hockey and it's definitely not about hockey politics - Brebant could be selling the tickets and I'd still buy one

If you want to stay home that's your choice - just don't expect the rest of us to miss you!

I thought......

January 9 2002, 8:24 PM

ISL had signed a deal for playoffs to be in Manchester for the next few years.

Can you just imagine if Semis are between London, Bracknell, Belfast and Ayr....hehe, they'll be giving tickets away.

For the first time I won't be buying a ticket upfront, I'll only go if Sheffield make it. I wonder how much the ISL will be asking for from the owners if the event does lose money.

Regards

Doom
