The Irish capital of Dublin will become the newest addition to the Ice Hockey Superleague, with the announcement today that Ireland's largest city will host a professional ice hockey team.
The Ice Hockey Superleague already features franchises in seven UK locations, including the English capital London, the large cities of Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham and Belfast, plus Ayr and Bracknell.
Chief Executive of the Superleague, Ian Taylor, said. “The Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Superleague ice hockey will be coming to Dublin. It’s very important for all who love this exciting sport, that Ireland's capital city will soon be playing host to teams from big UK cities, and they will likewise be competing in their venues. We know there is a loyal base of enthusiastic support for ice hockey in the Republic of Ireland, and that Dublin will provide a sound base for showcasing one of the world's fastest and most skilful games in the capital and throughout Ireland. Ice Hockey Superleague firmly believes that ice hockey will become part of Ireland's great sporting tradition and will serve as a great source of affordable family entertainment.
“The Board of Directors are currently considering a number of applications for various franchises around the UK and Ireland. Dublin is the first of a number of announcements that will demonstrate the continued advancement of Ice Hockey Superleague, and the planned expansion with the introduction of new strong businesses into Superleague,” Taylor added.
It is expected that the Dublin franchise will be in place for the 2005/2006 season.
Full details of the new owners and team details will be announced at a Press Conference, which will be arranged at a later date. Until that time, all other details will remain confidential.
Still it will be good to have the Dublin Bay Prawns on board. Lets hope Bertie gets to build his bowl or the football and the ice hockey will be both screwed!
theres still no confirmation of whether Berties Bowl will be built..and until thats done...we may have another L**ds on our hands..
Am i being too cynical or is it 'just the right time to mention a promise' of a new franchise...and look at that date...

......... in Dronfield last week. NL stated that it was go for 2003-04 and that it had cost £500,000. But I take your point about Leeds. He also said Cardiff would be back at the same time and that with IT's departure the ISL were scrapping the minimum seating rule for Stadia, which is why Dundee & Coventry were interested.
And Scuff I would never accuse you of being cynical!
