Quote from Ian Taylor on BBC Online

At the moment Ian Taylor is giving little away, but he insisted the off-season would not be dull.

"We'll have good franchise news over the summer with a couple of new owners who will be really, really interesting.

If I said I was bringing in a Manchester United of ice hockey to get involved in Superleague you'd all get excited but that's the sort of news you're going to be hearing very shortly".

What do we think that means

Is this man for real??? I only hope as a Newcastle fan he means we might have a team (please, please, please).

Also a massive well done to you guys, you were my second team this year, only due to other commitments this past weekend was unable to make the play offs. Watching on text for the result on Sunday, I was so nervous. Haven;t been that nervous since the demise of my team this past season.

Anyway guys WELL DONE. Am so happy for you. My husband actually predicted you guys would win the play offs. My prediction went that London woud win the league (probably down to the guys they were signing, before injuries set in). Look forward to seeing you back here in Newcastle next season.

Keep smiling.

Fiona

I think he's referring to...

April 3 2002, 10:52 AM

....Ayr - they have a Scottish coach and a goalie with no hair, just like Man Utd

Ah right! :)

April 3 2002, 10:35 PM

Sorry mate, I'm not at 100% myself today either! Had to call in sick when I couldn't get out of bed this morning - I think I turned over in my sleep and aggravated my back I've been stiff all day, and not in a good way!

All in all it's getting better - I'm more mobile than I was a week ago when they first let me out, I can tell you!

Cheers!

Rev

Rangers???

April 3 2002, 2:06 PM

So the Man U of icehockey are the New York Rangers.
A big money making succesful club.

If you read the article i think he is sprouting a load of blolax.

The ISL cannot get any worse except for not existing anymore.
12 - 15 teams by 2005 in the ISL. so around 2teams a year are going to join.

Lets hope the first two are poor Newcastle and Cardiff. I for one misses the hog roast sarnies with stuffing and apple sauce followed by fresh donuts and coffee. also the fiery cardiff games and the inflatble sheep

Devils?

April 3 2002, 2:09 PM

I seem to remember something on the BBC website last summer about Man Utd and the New Jersey Devils creating a promotional partnership. Since ISL teams have sometimes had direct ties with NHL teams in the past, could we be expecting a new (or old) ISL team to reappear with NHL backing?....

Devil-Yankee Connection

April 3 2002, 4:46 PM

Rev,

The Devils as well as the New Jersey Nets, are owned by the Yankees baseball team.

The Yanks have the deal with Man U, with crossover promotions.

That is why the Devs may have that link... But why would they?

Well, since the Steelers Supporters Club are connected with the Islanders Booster Club, them maybe we should make some connection to a football club, hmmmm????

Connections

April 3 2002, 5:00 PM

In the past, when Manchester Storm were owned by Ogden they had links with the Ottawa Senators, and London through Anshultz (sp?) have had links with NHL teams so it's a possibility that another NHL team (or parent company) might want to explore the British scene a little. What the feasibility is I don't know, but it's a possible.

Either that or Ian Taylor has said it to get people talking, which he has managed!
