Blimey, I have one weekend with a knackered PC and the world changes completely, DS starts asking me to get involved, you lot start throwing ideas around and Im not here to let my big mouth run away with me

I would glady get involved and help out, I've been asked properly so I couldn't possibly say no could I

FYI IMHO the more ideas the better, Im sorry to say I agree with what DS said, the product has gone flat and we do indeed need to walk before we set out running

In the next day or so [PC working and all, fingers crossed] I will be emailing DS, Scuff and several other people who I know have ideas and opinions

We do need to get together quickly as the new season will be here before we know it, I will print out all of the posts below and take email addresses where possible, if you have any problems with me emailing you please let me know

I will post a specific email to contact me at in the next couple of days, please keep reading and I will get back to you all as soon as I can

Keep posting your ideas and I promise to read and respond to everyone who posts

Flat

May 27 2002, 10:27 AM

Its only flat because we have used to it for so long, when you try coming up with new music that works you will only then realise how hard it is. Look at the other rinks / arena, they either copy us or fail with their ideas for stabs. Remember it has to be either Piss Take or have a beat for crowd participation.

Good luck Bobster

So the London match night presentation is a blatant Steelers rip off then?

Nah - in truth the guys at Montrose (Knights production team) have laid down the standard that you now need to match.

You're past it Dave

Its time we picked up the torch again and led the way, Im sure Steelers fans will rise to the challenge and we can produce something new and exciting for 2002-2003

London Nights.....

May 27 2002, 12:25 PM

Geth, in my brief experiences of life at the Docklands the experience isnt all that, although admittedly I havent been since the turn of the year (has it changed at all?). I think the half full arena doesnt help. Something we are learning fast at the HOS.

I do like the "REPLAY" idea when the Knights score a goal. Very annoying when us Steelers start singing "show us your replay?" when we score though - and lets face it, that's quite often in recent visits

Ian - you ain't dead then

I was actually talking about the quality of matchnight presentation. Having a half-full arena with c**p acoustics doesn't help but they've improved the Knights entrance (ooh matron and the quality of the clips on the Jumbotron and the music is first rate

Fighting fit

May 27 2002, 1:05 PM

Geth, I'm still here matey, fighting fit as always, just got the matchsticks in the eyes from all those late nights watching channel 5 and the big boys of the NHL. Am loving the current Avs-Wings series.

Sounds like they've done you proud down at the Docklands mate........just in time for your impending move over river to the Dome (is that still going ahead?)

Will have to sample the delights of this summer tournement thats going on. Should be a good hockey fix, and should tide me over until the new season.

Hopefully DS, Scuff, Bobster and a few more of the Steeler Boys will get some good ideas in place for the start of the season at the HOS. It is getting a bit flat, but good on you all for attempting to reverse the trend before it gets too late. Shall look forward to seeing/hearing what you all come up with. Lets hope that Blazer can put together a decent team who are fit to grace this entertainment bananza that awaits us

What can I say? Apologies all round to the lovely ladies, especially those who frequent block 109.

I wanted to eat pie for lunch anyway, just fancied chicken and mushroom, not humble...

Must ask the boss to send me on one of those political correctness courses........

London Nights

May 27 2002, 1:51 PM

FWIW I rate the show in London as one of the best though in truth I consider it not outstanding. The choice of music pleases me as did the choice in Newcastle. I don't care much for the humerous videos though I liked the guy with the captions behind the players in the PB. The teddy bear chuck is a fine idea and we ought to nominate a date or two and do it at every arena on the same dates. Make a big thing of it, tell the press, let the public know that hockey fans are generous and friendly folk.

London

May 27 2002, 3:51 PM

Londons intro has the advantage of a video screen, which is the only half decent bit of the intro, Gethin, past it, at least i have been it.

Re: London

Knights really improved the intro after the Aherne Cup games last year. It's now not just the jumbotron (dry ice, strobes etc) - looks a hell of a lot better. Still reckon that Manchester's original intro was the best I've seen over here.

BTW Dave - You never were it - at least nowhere outside of your own mind

I beg to differ, you may not like Daves style of presentation, but like most things that the Steelers pioneered in this country, most have followed.

SOME have improved upon, but when clubs have the finaancial backing of some of the worlds largest companies, then it should be better.

Manchester still had the best intro. Well thought out and not based on a load of pop songs strung together.

Pioneering?

Your're like the London Underground - great in its day but past it and bettered by others who've learned from the mistakes

Progression

May 27 2002, 10:03 PM

Its called, product developement and innovation, any forward thinking company knows that the first priority is to listen to their customers and act on it .It seems that is what the Steelers have finally got around to doing, lets hope they act on it now.

Belfast?

May 27 2002, 5:30 PM

How do the entertaiment lads in Belfast fail or copy you in anyway?
They mainly play rock and metal music that goes down very well with nearly everyone, keeps a good atmosphere, and is good hockey music.
If they are failing, then I doubt that the ISL would hire them to do the same for the playoff weekend.

re Belfast

May 27 2002, 8:19 PM

Graham...you have to admit that Belfasts intro etc can sometimes be found lacking...what does make Belfast special is the twixt period entertainment and mascots..The betweeen play 'stabs' are no more than the other arenas play and lets face it, you lot would have danced and waved to Frankie Valli last season

As for the ISL hiring the belfast lads...now your showing yer innocence...they probably came cheap !! Skill, ability and quality arent watchwords here..

Re: re Belfast

May 27 2002, 10:24 PM

But audience participation decided 'objectively' (eg programme number, autographed programmes like Bracknell used to do, NOT 'loudest' fan or friend of a friend etc

Actually you are right Scuff,I should have considered cost. Being young and innocent can be a problem in a world full of money obsessed sharks.

More time on UK ice hockey boards should take away any innocence that I have left.

Audience participation

May 27 2002, 1:08 PM

I think that is the key to improving the interval entertainment. Professional entertainment is obviously too expensive and trying out 'amateur' entertainment just doesn't work (like the rappers from last season)

Whilst I appreciate you're tied to a tight time slot, i.e. getting on and off in time for the Zamboni to go round, I think something like an audience participation shoot-out (from the half-way line) into one of the nets would be good. You could have, say 3 shots each, and the winner gets a sponsored prize. It wouldn't have to be a massive prize as just taking part would be enough for most people I reckon.

The participants could stand on rubber matting to prevent them from falling and take slap shots at an empty net.

Agreed

May 27 2002, 1:28 PM

Agreed

Thats were a lot of my ideas lie, BUT, amateur entertainment is not out of the question, who actually says that professional entertainment is out of the question either

One thing I will guarantee is that every idea will be considered and discussed, after all, the simple ideas are the best
