I was listening to my Def Leppard cd last night, lots of great songs, for eg. "pour some sugar on me" could be good for an intro, "Lets get rocked" to get people going, "Action" especially the line "everybody wants a piece of the action" could be good for say third man in on a fight or a bench clearance! plus they`re a Sheffield band what more can I say!!!
Not sure about 70`s music much prefer 80`s! although I do like abit of abba!!!
Talking of cheesy music though, first thing that came to mind was Tom Jones and the song whats new pussycat for the panthers but I think we`ve already had that haven`t we! plus knowing them they`d probably sing Ally ally ally!!! I know I would if I were them lol,
Anyway I`ll keep trawling through my collection of eighties cd`s I`ll let ya know if I find any good uns!
How about "big girls don`t cry" or "it`s my party and i`ll cry if I want to" for when players goes sulking to the refs` lol, or "Do you really want to hurt me" by Culture Club when a player backs down from a fight!!!
‘I surrender’ is by Rainbow (classic 70’s rock bank!)
My other suggestions would include:
When a player is going to the pen box, no prizes for guessing which are home or away team!.
I fought the law (and the law won).
The “wasn’t me” section from the Shaggy song
Guilty as charged – (not sure who it is by!)
…..
One goal down = That don’t impress me much (Shania Twain).
Three Goals down = I guess that’s why they call it the blues (Elton John)
Five Goals down = Always look on the bright side of life (Monty Python)
…
A sound clips that only Sheffield could use! – no offense meant, San Antonio use it and I just think it’s very funny, but the only team I could ever think of using it in the UK would be Sheffield. (Actually I think Storm should use it, but it doesn’t really fit the atmosphere the match night has gone for, Shame!..) Played after a win, taken from Charlie and the Choccy factory. Near the end of the film after the tour Willy Wonka comes out with the line at a firm to raised voice: ‘You lose, you get NOTHING, good day sir!).
..."Also Sprach Zarathustra" as an intro? (#der...der...der...da-derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum#) coz that's always good.
What about "T.R.O.U.B.L.E" (#If your lookin' for trouble (da da da da da) U came to the right place (da da da da da)#), (OK, most of these ideas came from an Elvis CD, U got me!), either as an intro, or player fights? "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"?
Also, can we not get some more songs that refer to individual players? (Like Teeder's, Shaun Silver's, etc?) That gets crowd noise anyway, either because our fans like the particular player and join in, or dislike the other team's player (they can have songs too!! Now, a good one for Barry....) and join in. Win-win!!
I think thats the song we had on the intro a few seasons ago, before Thunderbirds was brought back wasn't it? It was followed by that song from Pulp Fiction. That has always been my favourite intro by far. It was a lot more dramatic that Sandstorm definitely. I think what we really need to be thinking of is songs to be played all the time in the breaks, not just for when a certain team comes to town or when theres a fight, although these are all great ideas.
There are lots of good songs that were played for individuals, like you say Hi Ho Silver Lining for Shawn Silver, and Wild Thing for Cranny, but I don't see why these great songs need necessarily be retired just because we don't have the players anymore. I think both would fit in well for breaks in play. Loads of people used to sing Hi Ho Sheffield Steelers, instead of Shawn Silver anyway.
I know we`re talking new songs but I`d still keep the old favourites like "cotton eye joe", "rocking all over the world", "Hi ho sheffield steelers" and any others to which people get up for or join in with! on that subject whatever happened to steps song "123456" I think most people liked that song, can`t say that I heard it last season!
Not sure what sort of music to play in between periods though! each to their own taste, there will always be someone that doesn`t like it, or as I mentioned to Bobster in an earlier posting, how about a karaoke machine on stage for in between periods, that would be hilarious! just a thought anyway!!!
Hows about the following ?
"Turn It On Again" by Genesis when we come out after a period.
"Stray Cat Strut" by the Stray Cats for when you know who comes to town.
"Where The Bums Go" by Fun Lovin Criminals when an opposing player goes in the bin
"Black Eyed Boy" by Texas after a fight (if we ever get to see any this season)
"Lovely Day" by Bill Withers at the end of the match as an alternative to "Simply the Best"
And Finally "Missing You" by John Waite which goes along the lines that we are not missing you at all for when that new Panther comes back to the HOS.
