The former Sheffield Steelers owner and Chesterfield football club chairman
Darren Brown has been arrested on suspicion of fraudulent trading.
Mr Brown was arrested on Monday at his home in Wingerworth, and was
questioned at length at Chesterfield police station before being released on
bail without charge.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the financial affairs of
Mr Brown's company, UK Sports Group, which controlled both Chesterfield FC
and the Sheffield Steelers before it collapsed with heavy debts.
The investigation is being run jointly by Derbyshire Police Force and the
Serious Fraud Office.
Mr Brown said on Tuesday that he was taking legal advice, and denied he was
guilty of any financial wrongdoing.
Another man - an accountant from Nottingham - has already been arrested and
charged with false accounting as a result of his involvement with the UK
Sports Group.
He is due to appear before magistrates next month.
