There have been a number of postings recently about what our club needs to do next season to increase the crowds. I just wondered what are the main attractions for most people who attend a night at the hockey, is it:-
1. The quality of the hockey in general
2. A successful Sheffield team
3. The cost of admission
4. The atmosphere (ie. Big crowds)….this is probably partly linked to 3 above
5. The music played during breaks
6. Mid interval entertainment
7. Socialising
8. It’s a hockey game, what more could you want
9. Something else
If I had to pick 3 in order of priority, I would say 2, 4 and 8. What does everyone else think?
For me it's 4 and 8 but surely the issue is what might attract new fans and why the old ones stopped coming not why we all continue to go. Trying to get more people going will depend on finding out what might tempt the others into the building. Atmosphere, music etc. may mean more to these people (initially at least) than the hockey. The biggest drawback of course is in "selling" a competition with so few teams. After a while it is inevitable that people will pick and choose their games. Why "bust a gut" to get to see a team that you can see again in two weeks' time 'coz we see every team four or five times a year at the Arena.
