Met the guy who wrote this on sunday night in Belfast after the last Ice Cup game (yes it was in McHughs, EDA members take note..) He's a written basically a chronicle of the trials and tribulations of a 'bush league' hockey team, the Austin Ice-Bats..a few familiar names mentioned in it...(Upset him a bit when I gave him a critical acclamation of an ex Steeler that he talked of that turned out for em at one point..)

Seriously an excellent read...to them that can of course!!

Scuff....

did you go over to Belfast for the ice cup?

If so, could you give us a bit of an insight into the team who's likely to be our main competitor for silverware.....that's if you were sober enough to remember .

Regards

Doom

In which case...

September 2 2002, 9:57 PM

..young man..

allow me

They (Belfast) have now played 3 more games than us...and i hope to god we are not as disjointed during our three 'warm up' CC games..At times the Giants looked quite lost up front..Good D by the Scandinavians and french teams frustrated em and they lost a bit of interest..

Kruse and Bach?

Kruse had a solid games all weekend, getting on the points sheet witha nice tap in v Mulhouse..Bach started like last season...but finished well against Sodertalje who won the tourney without conceding a goal..

One to watch is the big Japanese lad Ryan Kuwabara (who played for the interestingly named Kokudo Bunnies!! ) he is bloody big...and no lack of skill..
The lads they have retained from last season seemed a bit ...erm...casual..and got a couple of well earned bollockings from Mester Whistle over the weekend..

Mr Schulte was slightly quiet tho...

all in all, not a good way to judge their team, as they also cocked up the Ice cup last season I think...

Think they will be there or thereabouts tho...

One point was that the crowds were very disappointing..around 2-2500 max I think (step in StevieG if you know any different...) couldnt explain it really..

Mr Kirkham and Mr Boniface provided the 'comedy reffing' Seems Simon is not the fave oer in the provinces..What do they expect from an ex panther?

Still the company and Guinness was superb...as ever!!

I guess...

September 2 2002, 10:06 PM

It's still much too early to judge our friends from across the water, but it does sound like they won't be as invincible as some would have us all believe. Having said that, I'd still settle for finishing one place above them in the league this season.

Thanks for the details, it makes encouraging reading, although I've still got my money on them for the league title .

You must have been hiding behind a wall at the time because Troja scored against Sodertalje on Saturday night

Chatrooms in Scotland...

Too right.

When we see a nippy sports car fly past down here, we say "Look, a Ferrari!". Up there they say "Look, a car!"

(Apologies to Jeremy Clarkson for the rip-off of his anti-Norfolk rant)
