BHL/ISL

While looking up some stats I couldn't but help notice the difference in standard there must have been between the BHL and ISL when it was formed. Some of the BHL teams must have been dire for players to score points like below.

95-96 final BHL season
Goals Assists Points Player
101 102 203 Chris Brant
53 120 173 Dave Whistle
48 69 117 Rob Stewart

96-97 first ISL season
Goals Assists Points Player
14 22 36 Chris Brant
13 17 30 Dave Whistle
11 26 37 Rob Stewart

And is there a danger any new league formed out of the ashes of the ISL ending up the same?

That bees team was playing in division one that season not the old Premier League.

There's no way the standard is going to drop this low again IMO.

Think we will see a league that is pretty much about the standard of what today's BNL is.

You wanna see numbers to make you cry, try looking at Paul Adey and Rick Brebant circa 1993/94/95 !!!

Brebant in 63 games, 93/94 Cardiff Devils. 119+154 for (ahem) 273 points!

cough

And Sacospuds got numerous mentions for getting 250 points in SEVEN seasons in the ISL

It was, not just in name, a different league. Gone are the days when an Adey or Priestlay would stride up inside the red line and blast one past the goalie from 80 feet!

REally unfair to compare the too. In those days there were 3/4 imports and the quality of netminding wasn't anywhere near as high.

I've watched a few BNL games this year and been VERY pleasantly surprised at the standard. Bearing in mind any new league will be of the same standard there's not much to be worried about.

I've seen Dundee v Hull. Twas a great game and much enjoyed. Top BNL clubs are not that far behind ISL. A ray of light?!

You mean the teams that have been beating Cardiff with what must be, for you, disappointing regularity?

I'm sure you're right. There are some good players there who prefer to mix part-time hockey with a proper job and are better off overall.

I'm just pleased to see hockey back in Cardiff and particularly British (mainly Welsh) players in the team.

We'll have a nice year's jump on you guys next season when it comes to filling out the roster

I didn't know that there was a Premier and division 1 in the old BHL. Was that it or was there a division 2 also. Did the EPNL exist at the time? I wasn't comparing the 2 Getin, just wondering how players can score so many points one year and then nose dive the next. Giants supporters, huh whatta they know

Yeah that 1st Division had Bees and Storm in. If you look at Storm's stats you'll see that most of their players who stayed for the ISL era took a nosedive too.

The standard between the 1st division of 95-96 and 96-97 ISL was huge.

Hockey came so much more professional and many NHL/AHL/IHL players came to these shores compared to the guys who worked in the local off licence during the week and played hockey at weekends.

...All those guys are Knackered old Sh1ts, you'll never get Whistle scoring that many...seriously....

The standard of the BNL is very high, very high indeed in many cases better than some of the current ISL teams I would suggest. Watching last years playoff final in Dundee was one of the best, most exciting games i've ever seen in over 20years of hockey, superb stuff.

Trust me...at it's best the BNl is SUPERB
