By the uterly ridiculous attempt to get people in for a game of little interest during a midweek (Dundee).

It's a publicity stunt and no more than that talking about retiring the shirts of players who have been at the club no more than 5 years - it is tarnishing the game - and it just should not happen.

Steelers fans please remind the club it is so and please ask them to reconsider this ridiculous decision.

There will be 2500 at the game if we are lucky, why not just accept it or cancel it due to lack of public interest!

For heavens sake if you don't like the idea just don't go or stay on the concourse while the retiring is taking place. I for one am looking forward to seeing Dundee, I was planning on travelling to Cov to see them anyway. Some folk are never happy

The game against Dundee was organised firstly to show some sign of co-operation between the Steelers and the BNL, and that we wanted to build bridges and not widen them.

We agreed to play under BNL rules allowing the likes of Lawrence, Duncombe and Leyland the proper chance of playing and seeing what the BNL product was like.

Dundee were the obvious choice bearing in mind they had both Teeder, Kenny and Tony in their line up and that this would be an ideal chance to see expecially Kenny again.

Whilst Tony and Kenny have not served the club for 10 years, they served it well and brought the club, the City and the Sport great credit. In time Ron Shudra will receive the same award, he has said he wants to retire him self before the award and we will respect he wishes on that point.

I think the 21st will be a great night, the past, Kenny Tony and Teeder, the present, 8 of our Steelers team and the future, the young Sheffield lads. If our writer at the top doesnt like it he doesnt have to go, and quiet frankly we might have a better night without him.

Out of interest.....

December 18 2002, 12:48 PM

.....what involvement do the Steelers (past and present) have with the Sheffield Junior teams?

Do any of the players get involved with coaching?

I play for the womens team in Sheffield and i've been coached by mike blaisdell, andre malo, brent bobyck and david longstaff. Ok its not on a regular basis but it's a lot to expect these people to come down to the rink at ridiculous times, e.g. 10.30-12.30 on a friday night on a regualar basis!!!

I know - training times can be a pain (my rec team train 10:30-midnight on Wednesdays).

Seriously though I was wondering what kind of input the Steelers have into the very succesful Sheffield junior programme. If I was a team owner I'd have it written into my players contracts that they had to help out at a certain number of junior practices a week.

another case of a little knowledge

a minimum of 8 of your players wouldnt be able to take part with coaching the kids as part of their contract Gethen as it would be illigal under department of employment rules

Nice to see your spelling is up to its usual standard Daved

So that's the work permit holders that can't train the kids - still leaves another 8-10 players that can.

Moving swiftly on, any chance of an answer to the question about Steelers players involvement in the junior development program?

It seems to be an roaring success - is that because of or inspite of the Steelers helping out? (Serious question BTW)
