I cannot remember the year but I remember the civil rights strife in Rockland County. After the fire Robert Layman and myself worked for Walt Johnson WRKL engineer. We pulled all the insulation off the burnt wiring and pulled plate after plate off the burned out transmitter transformers. We were promised a share of the scrap value of the copper. We were mesmerized by the fire damage and all the 45's a lp records we pulled from the ashes. We never received the money for the copper, somehow the scrap vanished. We did get to keep all those vinyl records though. I think we were about fifteen years old, thrilled to have the run of a real live radio station, even in ruins. |
