I didn't know Tobin lost his job at the "R" because of union activity. Ironically, after I filed a grievance there myself, he hired me over at FAS. Even though he was ND there, he was still keen to personally cover the Yonkers Desegregation controversy (this was 88-89) himself, raucus City Council meetings, highly "political," lots of details and history, etc., even though I was the night reporter. Eventually he let me take it over, after some "hand-holding." I hope I did him proud.
