I have not seen too many historical discussions on VirtualAni. That dissapoints a little, and I would like to take the initiative and begin one.

In a numismatic discussion of Armenian coins, specifically a follis struck in Lori by Kiurike II(1048-1100) a Georgian individual considered this king "an armenian who struck coins on georgian territory, and the region was historically georgian, and given to the armenia by communists in 1921."

I was strongly offended by this statement.

As I understand, the region was a part of Armenia from ancient times. During the Baghratuni era, significant strides were made in Armenian culture. Famous churches, with Haghpat one of the most prominent being built by them. Next as I understand, this are became part of one of the independent kingdoms along others during break up of Baghratuni Armenia. During the reign of Kuirike II, the first coins in the Armenian language were struck. Afterwards, it fell under Seljuq domination. Later, it was invaded by Georgia (c.13th century ?) along with a large part of moslem controlled Armenia. The area remained under Georgian political domination until 1919, when Armenians under war hero Dro defeated the Georgians, resulting in the modern border. As I understand, there is some Georgian evidence in the area. However, it is limited to a few churches taken from the Armenian Church and converted and several of Georgian construction. However, Armenians were the predominant people who have continualy inhabited this area.

Could anyone comment, or correct me if I said anything incorrect?
I have tried to find reading material on the topic, but most of it is inconsistent and confusing.

I tried to find the name of the Kiurikean Rulers and their reigns, but found the following inconsistent dates:

Gurgen (Kyurike) I, son of Ashot III (979 - 989)
Davit I Anhoghin (Landless), son (989 - 1048)
Gurgen II, son (1048 - 1089)
Davit II, son (1089 - 1118, in Matznaberd till 1145)
1118 Seljuk occupation

GURGEN I (son) of Ashot III of Armenia), 982-989
DAVID ANHOGHIN [the Landless] (son), 989-1046/48
GURGEN II-Kiwrike (son), 1046-1081/89
[Lorhi annexed by the Saljuqs]

Often, these internet sources are not very relieble as of chronology. For exaple, some do not make a distinction between the princely/baronial periods and the royal period of not only Baghratunis but also Roupenians. Some even list son of Toros II as a ruler (Roupen II) even though it is known he was a child who was left under the leadership of the constable for only months, until Mleh took over. Spelling is another problem. Sites often incorrectly name kings. The name Levon is often listed as "Leo" even though coins of these kings clearly spell the name of the rulers as Levon. Numismatist consider the reign of Kiurike II to last from 1048-1100. Any comments and information is appreciated.
