I did know about this website, but thanks for telling others. And, I had previously looked mostly at those pages dealing with the Kayseri area, and I hadn't noticed the Ani material before. I suppose it is encouraging that in Turkey at least some people are now interested in the monuments of their area for reasons more than them being a place where they believe treasure is buried. That's probably why so many obscure or minor churches are pictured - it is local people placing photos of anything historical in their area.

Ram-shaped stones are found in many places in eastern Turkey and were used as grave markers by both Christians and Moslems (most of those in the Kars museum are Christian Armenian but are labeled as being Turkish of course - there are others without inscriptions in the Van and Erzurum museums). But I don't think anyone has properly researched their meaning, their use, and their range. The simplistic Akkoyunlu / Karakoyunlu explanation is not credible.
