Response to How's that?
How about the two photos of Khtzkonk in winter posted on the Virtual Ani site under ''Winter in eastern Turkey', so-called 'Anonymous'?
I guess they prove a point or two, or do your eyes edit out visual evidence for you? (And why did Virtual Ani choose to post them, only herre to deny their evidence?)
I'd say they are conclusive on the point that a small part of the Surp Karapet chapel has NOT been ''entirely levelled'' (or has been levelled and since reconstructed - for unknown reasons in that case).
Also that huge rocks can fall in the vicinity (whether dislodged by earthquake, explosion or the natural effects of weathering, I leave you to speculate and affirm without shadow of doubt, as is your bent), with me speculating that their fall probably causes considerable vibration to the rock on which they land.
And also that winter conditions in the region cause temperature drops below the freezing point of water, thus certainly affecting cracks in any structure or rock where ice can form, almost certainly increasing their size and likelihood of eventually causing some collapse.
