The extent of the mass destruction by "restoration" of cultural monuments in Turkey has now got so bad that even mainstream Turkish media feels able to criticise it. That number 13 could easily be expanded to 1,300, perhaps even to 13,000, and could include all the "restored" Armenian monuments at Ani, at Kars, at Aghtamar, etc. However, what is notable is the continuing complete silence in professional press and from academics - if these "restorations" are reported or mentioned by them at all, it is only to give them uncritical praise. As long as that silence continues, corrupt imbeciles like Yavuz Özkaya will continue to destroy with impunity.
