Having looked forward to celebrating my mothers 60th birthday we were all very disapointed with both the service of ill mannered waitresses, the quality of food and the length of time it took to get to our table.I ordered for my daughter what was described on the menu as yorkshire pudding FILLED WITH SAUSAGES AND BEANS what she got was one small pudding on a plate with just chips and 3 dried up sausages. When i asked about gravy i was told you dont get any!!! if not asked for!!!!! My mothers and fathers steak was greasy and cold, chips were like left over scraps and my chicken and leek PIE had no pastry to it. I asked the waitress what my meal was.She replied "what do you want it to be? She then confirmed that the pie top had not been put on and said she would knock £4 off my meal!!!!!!!!!!
My sister had cornbeef pie which had a dried up whole roast potatoe IN the pie. It was a total disater what should have been a memorable day.
We also found it very strange while eating our meal that campers were constanley coming through resturant to have a shower in a room situated in the resturant area. Then also when going to to ladies meeting people drying there HAIR!!!!!!
This pub is a classic British walkers' pub.....a unique and lovely experience I have yet to be matched by any other British pub. With all due respect, I sympathise that your mum's 60th birthday didn't turn out to be a memorable occasion, but to those of us who walk (and camp), we are truely thankful for such a warm and hospitable 'sanctuary' as the Lion Inn. Yeah, this place is like stepping back in time...but that's what makes it the haven that it is! I'd suggest you try an overpriced, pretentious eaterie next time where you get the minimal amount of food for the maximum price! Leave the Lion Inn to those of us who have eaten and drank (and camped) for years....and LOVE it. Long live the Lion Inn!!!!!
Can I suggest that either Mrs Dixon went to the wrong Lion or has gone on the wrong web site. Also that possibly people were drying their hair in the toilets because she had locked her room !
Clearly a member of Victor meldrews family and in the future one should point ones 4x4 in a northerly direction and not stop until over the scottish border.
If she had been there on the 28th July 2005 she would have REALLY enjoyed it !
