New 'Puter/ old Monitor problem

I just assembled all new parts a computer to be used for audio editing. The specs are:

Asus A8N-SLI PCIe Socket 939 Mobo
Amd Athlon 64 3200+ CPU
2- ultra 512MB PC3200 DDR 400 MHz CL3
Maxtor 160 GB SATA HD
ATI Mach 32 Graphics Card

All appropriate cabling, power supply, and cd/dvd/floppy drives, etc.

I installed XP, now the 'puter boots, then the monitor says "5 seconds to off mode", then shuts off. The rest of the computer is still running, and the monitor says "No signal". I can start it in safe mode, but as soon as I try to run in normal mode it happens again. Could this be because I'm using an OLD monitor? Is there a patch I can download, or do I have to find a new monitor? I'd rather not get an older graphics card....
